I'm going to be buying a used motor for my 90 Talon TSI soon. I was looking at some of the JDM places and trying to find the best one. Does anyone have any good or bad experiance with buying their motor.

Thanks

I bought one from Rising Sun Engines, the problem that I had was that sometimes their email communication wasn't fast and they rarely answer you back in a professional way. It's mostly just a blurb that may answer one thing that you asked about. Also, they're overpriced (in my opinion) for just a long block. I should've looked around more so I could've got a turbo and played "lottery" to see if I would've got a 16g. But be aware that JDMs usually cost more, so try to look for one a little closer to home ;).

I got mine from a place here locally called TMG Auto. I ordered it and had it the next day. I paid $1239 and it came with yellow top injectors and a B16G. The only downside was the 1st engine I received had its timing marks all off and pieces of bearings in the oil pan. I took it back and received a much better condition engine a few days later, also with yellow tops and a B16G. After tearing it down to do timing and balance shaft removal I must say that it is in awesome shape. The engine should be in my car as of this weekend, but thus far my JDM engine buying experience has been a good one. :thumb:

On a side note I'd be careful as this will likely end up being a thread as to why you should just buy a USDM engine. For those on a budget and short on time I think JDM is a very viable option.

There is a place here locally that sells JDM engines. I am going to get one before the end of August, but I wont get one without yellow injectors. Here its $1200, and I am gonna check them out before buying... hopefully it goes smoothly.

Just make sure to pick up the engine from them. This way you can make them pop the timing cover and oil pan right there before you "take delivery" of the engine. That's what I did with the 2nd engine. :shhh: If anything is horribly off you just let them know that this is not what you paid for and you would like another.

Yeah that why I would love to find a place local or down near San Fran so that I can check it out and also save on shipping. But I cant find anything on the net that is near her for JDM motors.

I found my place in the back of an Autotrader, so you might try that. I bet there is someone near you.

No luck finding anything local. I'll be going to the local DSM salvage yard but I'm not sure if i will find a motor with less than 100,000 miles.

I was looking around and spotted Japanstarmotors.com and japanstarmotor.com. One says the other sells junk but I dont see anything writting bad about either..
