Yet another power streering pump question

hey guys i had a problem with my old power steering pump. I got a used one from a friend. i took the 3 bolts off removed the pump and lines of course. put the new one in and now i have few problems. first off is that when the car is sitting not in motion its almost like i don't have power steering only when im going down the road. it also makes a little noise i almost like the belt it making noise but i made sure it was tight and not loose. im just wondering if im over looking something someone can point out. do you guys think the pump is bad? if so my friend has a few more laying around and will give me another just have to take the time and remove and install again. thanks for the help guys

Isn't there something on the 1Gs about a pressure switch on the pump. Check the wire . Also to it might not hurt to make sure you got all the air out. Start your car and cycle the wheel lock to lock a few times and see if that helps. Keep us posted.
