hey guys so I'm thinking of shooting for 350awhp on my 2g gsx i have all an all stock motor and trans with all the supporting mods for 350hp. the only thing that concerns me is my miles. My car is at 170k miles and I'm worried if I tune it my trans will blow within a month. Would e85 make it a lot safer for my car? I've heard things like 1000hp on pump gas is like 800 on a motor with e85. So I'm curious if e85 would put less stress on my motor and make it healthier and safer. Thanks

E85 takes more fuel to achieve the same power goals as it flows differently than pump gas premium or race fuel. My, first question to you is, have you done All maintenance as recommended in the resources section? Then I ask, what year 2g? 350 hp on e85 or pump gas is still 350 hp!!!! So, your questions have me confused. I've see cars with same miles or more with lots of power and still going strong. So, it can be done but, refer to question #1 first

E85 will not put less stress on the motor/drivetrain. 350hp worth of stress on the car is 350hp worth of stress on the car regardless of the fuel.

However, E85 will decrease the likelihood of putting an undue amount of stress on the motor by reducing the possibility of knock or detonation. These conditions can significantly shorten the life of engine components and lead to a destroyed motor if they get bad enough.

As far as the transmission goes, it all just depends on the current health of the box, and how you intend to run 350hp through it during its lifespan. If the trans has never had the fluid changed in its life, and you're launching the car every 10 min, you'll probably be buying a new trans in short order. Alternatively, if the trans has been well cared for, and you're nice to it, it will likely last longer. And, of course, there's all possibilities in between those two extremes.

Here's the bottom line: If you plan to start modding your DSM aiming at 350hp, whether it's a 70k mile mint version or a beat to shit 170k mile version, you're going to break things. If you don't have the spare cash to buy replacement parts, and the ability to replace them, you may want to build up that cash cushion, and build that knowledge base first. Second (and this is really the most important one) if this is your one and only form of transportation/daily driver, don't mod it at all...Unless the bus stop is close by.

Lastly, go create a DSM profile for your car: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/welcome-to-dsmtuners-now-go-create-a-dsm-profile.499707/

Even if it's currently stock, you can start a build thread there and begin documenting your progress.

yeah all the maintenance has been done fairly recently and I change the oil every 3k on the dot. The next thing to be done is my timing belt. And it's a 98

Thanks that's what I was curious of. If it would take stress off the motor that's what I'm looking for. Idk if my car was ever beat honestly I bought it off a guy who was the 3rd owner of it. I've always taken really good care of it. Its auto so I never done anything crazy in it but i don't beat on it and I change the oil in it very regularly. I got the car with 128k and now it's almost at 170k I used to use it as a DD but now I don't drive it everyday because I finally got a daily. But when did use it as a daily it never gave me any issues ever. The car never left me stranded. The only serious issues it's had was my strut towers witch we fixed
