I didnt want to jack this other thread, but I am thinking about moving and this is good stuff to know.

What states are the worst to live in if you want to have a modded car? Emissions, inspections, cops, street race patrols, 0 tolerance, road side stops, etc... If you post a state make sure you tell us why you have had problems. I dont mean to just start bashing places people on here live, but maybe we can convince you to move. :p

I will start out with the obvious choice... any others to shy away from?

1. California ( strict emissions, inspections, low octane gas )

Heh atleast you can pass by paying someone off, PA hills are unforgiving on our cars :thumbdown I would love like west Va or NC SC FLA even spots in maryland where i used to live just not here

Pa just plain sux, besides the fact our roads are garbage! can't wait to get out of here

CA. End the thread now. It doesn't get any worse.

No way man , although i cant really say because i dont live there. anyways half the stuff we do to our cars is illegal if its here or in CA . and i dont doubt that they are WAY more strict on you guys than us but , when has that really ever stopped anyone from modding ? obviously none of us right LOL ? but although you not allowed to lower your car , you guys do anyways and when you do , the cops dont come and take a hammer to your bumper to show you should not have lowerd it. you might get a ticket. we have to Pay for a new bumper or chin spoiler or paint job ya know ? because its a given that something bad will happen . I guess what im saying is you guys have the option to mod and can do so with no consequences , if your lucky. For us its just we cant do it. also PA inspection is pretty harsh. maybe i kinda turned this in to a "worst state for lowerd cars" thread :p Im affraid to lower my GSX , I picked up this girl sunday night and ill tell you no if i was lowerd i would have had to go home and get the blazer. so yea you can mod and the cops may get you or they may not , even maybe let you off the hook , but the roads here dont give second chances ! LOL maybe were even then ? i dont know that my .02 :thumb: also driving a lowerd car anywhere is hard but here in PA its an art that must be masterd , cuz if its not then you cars in trouble!

cool thread though

I would like to 3rd the motion gentlemen.

and a 4th for me, i used to live out there, but now im here in Colorado. I would recommend moving out here to Colorado if you are looking for a state that could care less abotu modded cars. I took my car in for emissions a couple months ago and the people there are so out of it. They are not very smart people out here, on my first set of papers they spelled Eagle "Egil", yes that is totally true.

I don't know about all of Nevada, but Vegas is changing all their laws to match ca now you get arrested for street racing I never did :shhh: , but I wanted to have that option open if I was bored. The cops here hate imports :thumbdown and even the people at the damn Speedway hate on imports :thumbdown . Why can't we be friends? :p :

P.S. This is a g@y city to live in besides the import hating thing everything is illegal here like washing your car anywhere but the carwash, watering your grass more then 3 times a week, shooting fireworks that go in the air, etc stupid shit like that.

for suspension mods, Illinois! Especially chicago after its been a railroad yard back in the days! If your car is lowered you're fakked with the potholes.

ny is right up there in the worst states...... crappy roads, stupid cops, dumb laws.. and hicks! if your car aint stock it's illegal,
correction, if ur car is stock it still is illegal
buddy with an evo 8 got ticket for stock spoiler, go figure

Well they are out of it. When I took my ca rin for emissions it was too low. So they said I'd have to raise it up, take off my 18s because the tires didn't have enough tread (they were brand new), and take off my front bumper, side skirts, and rear bumper. The guy that told me that was mad, but he was also clueless. The Douglas County cop here that pulled me over, pulled me over for no front license plate, but didn't bother looking for illegal parts on my car. They really don't care here in CO.
Oh recently there was a "huge" street racing bust in CO. 30 cars total. They only arrested like 3-8 people on unrelated charges. They didn't arrest anyone for racing. Go figure.

exactly my point LOL...30 cars in a street race get-together, and 1/8 of them arrested on unrelated charges, Colorado, I think is the best place for modded cars.

i agree with the LAS Vegas Thing. it kind of sucks. the whole front of my car looks sand blasted. :thumbdown

My friend bought a car from pa last week and they were telling us the horror stories about how strict pa is on cars. I can't imagine how bad Cali is...You may get thrown in jail for changing your valve stem caps in cali.

PA really isn't that bad except for the roads. The cops don't normally pull you over for stupid things, although I do know some people who have. The cops(at least in my area) aren't ones to "check for illegal parts" like others. Our inspection however DOES suck. They check everything imaginable. My dad used to own an inspection garage and for little petty things that normally wouldn't pass, he'd let slide. There were still people who bi*ched but hey..its the law. luckily he's out of the business now where they're doing emissions and considering laws for modded suspension or body moldings to be illegal.

agreed. I get pulled over all the time too for not having a front license plate on my car. 1 time a local cop stopped me late at night and when I asked him what I did wrong he said I don't have a "village sticker" ... it's like a $15 sticker that has to go on the lower right portion of your windshield that can't be seen from more than like 10 feet away. WTF?!?! And we have emissions testing here too. Sux.

Here in PA it is just real rough on your car. THe roads are all pothole filled, when they fix them, they don't smooth it, it kind of creates a bump at each former pothole (just as bad as having the pothole there) in winter time forget about driving if it is stock (unles it's gsx), let alone lowered. The laws are very tough on us - very strict emissions and inspections, I got pulled over for having tint to dark and it was only 30%, they made me take it off at the police station. They check to make sure that the license plate is the correct hieght if it is to low they fine you for multiple charges and make you raise your car. They also fine you if your car is too loud after certain times like 11:00 PM or if your radio is too loud they fine you. many more ridiculous fines such as tire must be under wheel wheel or even to it, not like in other states where you see all these extended wheel base mods. no neon lights (doesn't bother me , but nontheless takes away more modding freedom) you get fined for having stuff just like a crystal hanging from your mirror - distracts other drivers. real peety shit. ok, enough babbling

so many hills by the time you get up one and down another you have to go back up another one and forget about taking some of them in 4th or 5th, you'ld be crazy, won't get up some with 3rd gear

I forgot to say that I lowered it anyway, in the winter it is more like a sled then a car though :p

you think ca is bad, try maine,

strict laws, cops who dont know them but think they do, and last but not least Frost Heaves!

Dont forget game wardens, think your goin by a redneck in a pickup at 130 and BAM blue lights of game warden...haha done that more than once. good news is they dont have radar :p

here its not bad at all, no emissions, no inspections. Around here its great to mod cars, they only ticket you on lighting mods, (neons, different colored blinker bulbs) but no suspension mods, and they dont ticket you for exahust noise, but they do ticket you for stereos, if its to loud its to louds, (if they hear it out side ur car some times they ticket u) racing is a 8 pt ticket here like $270 fine, but usuall u can get away with racing out on remote back roads a few mile out of city limits, and just far enough out the county cops dont patrol them much, plus its easy to learn shit routines and where cops usually are, Kearney is about 25,000 people and during the week there are only 4 squad cars out weekends its upped to 8, but they seem to crack down on teen drinking and parties here and not racing or moding cars some cop wont stop u here even if uve got neons on and bulbs showing. what they do crack down on the most tho is neon lights.

just my 2 cents but i dont know if i want to move away from here, you can almost allways cruise anywhere above 85-90 on rual roads and never see a cop. I know i drove the same strech of road home from work for 3 years at over 80 (in a 65) and never got stopped or saw a cop.
