my problem is that my car will not start when you crank it with the key, you can keep cranking it till the battery is dead but if you roll it and pop the clutch it will start. if anyone has any ideas thats great ### i have no clue?

Well when the motor trys to crank over, is it a slow rotation till the battery dies? Or is it continious like its not getting fuel or your ignition fuse is bad.

I would have the battery and the alternator checked, it might be the alternator if the battery keeps dying when your trying to start the car, because the allternator is not charging the battery while your driving and your car is draining the battery. It also could be just a bad battery.

The fuse would be more of a continious crank like when you prime a new turbo. :thumb:

it will crank at its normal speed but i'm just saying no matter how long you crank it, it will never start while using the key, but it will start right up as soon as you roll start it?

I had that problem so I decided to put a start switch in my car, like the Honda S2000s. I ran a wire from the positive part of the battery to a push switch, and then from the switch to the starter. You just turn the key to "on" push the button and it starts right up. It's very cheap compared to replacing and alternator or something, easy, and it looks pretty sweet too. If you're interested in doing this let me know and I will take pictures of it for you.

Im sorry, but thats the dumbest thing I have heard. Why not fix something thats broken instead of finding a cheap way around it. People wonder why dsm's dont last....

If the car is cranking but wont start, then obviously your battery has some juice. The alternator should not matter on startup as long as the battery is charged. I would check the voltage that the starter is putting out when the car is cranking. If that checks out and fuses check out, drain the gas tank and put some fresh gas in it and see what that does.

If the car runs fine once its started then the coil packs and injectors should be ok. It probably wouldnt hurt to thrown some injector cleaner or sea foam in it though. I have personally experienced two different dsm's that would crank but not start and I had to push start them and let them run for a long time to cycle the gas through and also I had to put fresh gas in both of them.

Give this a try and report back. I have some other ideas but I will wait and see.

oh and remember the basics: A motor needs essentially four things to run....Compression, timing, spark, and fuel.

Hopefully this helps you pin point your problem....

After re-reading your original post, my suggestion wouldn't be necessary at all. I had to put the switch in my car because I would turn the key and it wouldn't crank at all. You say yours cranks so it's obviously not whatever was wrong with my car. Sorry about that.

ok so i ran some injector cleaner through it and i'm still getting the same problem. how do you check the voltage when it is cranking?the other thing that it does is when you roll start it it will start right up but for about ten seconds you have to keep your foot on the gas because it kinda acts like it flooded, so if you take your foot off the gas it will just die. but after the ten seconds it will run fine.after it warms up you can shut it off and come back in a half hour and it will start just fine using the key and it doesnt act like its flooded.

How long did the car sit?

It seems to me that the gas needs to be drained and you need to start fresh again.

Had the same problem. I could jump it, but it would stall as soon I started to drive. I checked EVERYTHING except the battery. New battery and problem was gone. Take the battery in and get it checked. It is the time of year when batteries migrate south for the winter, permanently.

On my 2g, the ignition or something related was the problem. The symptoms would consist of a clicking when trying to start the car. At first I thought it was the starter, replaced that. Still did it, replaced it again under warranty, then still did it! Went back to the place I got my starter from and he told me, it's not the starter as he showed me by connecting power to the starter and gave it a whirl. He told me I had an electrical problem with my ignition area. I believed him because it was my 3rd starter! So I gave up on finding the ignition problem and went right away to the push button start. I say you give that a try. If that does not work, then I'd check out the battery and or alternator.

Your starter ignition switch is bad. The starter button idea, although dumb to some, would help you identify the problem.

Connect a wire to the "S" (signal) wire to your starter. Turn your key to the on (not start) position and connect 12V to the wire. If the car starts, you have confirmed the bad switch. You can replace it or bypass it.
