I am in need of a quick answer. I have my 90 GSX jacked up on stands at each corner with all 4 tires off the ground. I am just trying to make sure everything is in working order as I have been hearing a grinding noise somewhere in the drive train lately. If I spin either front tire by hand the opposite tire spins in the opposite direction and the rears dont turn. If I spin either of the rear tires it also spins the both front in the same direction at the same speed. However, the opposite rear wheel turns in the same direction. If I spin either rear tire very slowly it spins the opposite rear in the opposite direction. Is this correct. I still have the stock 3-bolt Visous LSD diff. Any help is GREATLY appreciated as I am getting ready to take it out to the track. By the way, I heard no grinding sounds? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This is gonna sound really weird because it's not what you hear the problem in, but in my AWD Talon I heard the same grinding sound but only when I shifted the low gears. And now the weird part, the grinding stopped when I put in a new cat-back, and ever since then I've been trying to figure out what that was, but since it stopped I'm not too worried about it. Of course your's could be something completely different, but that's my grinding story.

everything seems to be working right.

Thanks for the replies.

As for the grinding sounds...the sound usually occurs in the upper three gears and is only apparent when decelerating. Since my car is gutted, I was sure it was coming from either the rear diff or the lobro joint ( or whatever its called) However, while laying directly underneath the diff and spinning tires I heard absolutely nothing. I am beginnning to think the drive shaft is somehow rubbing on the exhaust somewhere.

Thanks again.

I have the same issue. Vibration and noise on deceleration. It feels like it is coming from the right rear......on my 92 Talon TSI AWD....with Apexi N1 downpipe and N1 Exhaust.

hmmmmmmmmmm. ur rear end maybe??? or ur wheel bearings????? hard to tell really, is it a clunking sound??? or a Scratchy sound??? or a whine???? how are ur Carrier bearings for ur drive shaft??????

I don't think its wheel bearing....I already replaced the left side ones, and the otherside is still tight.

Its like a "wub wub wub wub" type sound with intermitant vibration. The vibration almost feels like a draging of some sort...like on the drive shaft.

It only happens on decel. You can rool down a hill in netural and there is no vibe or sound.

The ebrake part of my right rear caliper is shot. Its stuck.....I don't think the brake are dragging because, the wheel doesn't get hot. I will be replacing that caliper soon. It may be the problem.

GSX launch.....are you having any ebrake problems?

My car makes that noise on decel all the time, I think it's pretty normal, just some drivetrain noise. I dunno, my driveline hasn't fragged yet.

I am pretty sure it isnt an e-brake problem. Mine is also only on decel...If I throw it in nuetral I hear no noise whatsoever. It is much like a rubbing sound mixed in with a slight wobble sort of noise. If you heard a deep humming/rubbing in the rear end and mix in a sound much like a 25lb weight spinning and comming to rest on a hard surface; that is what mine sounds like. Again, my car is gutted as you can see from the pic. The second pic shows some 75w 90w fluid I drained from the rear diff about 20 minutes ago. It looks normal to me...maybe its the lobro joint on the drive shaft?????? Either way, I just got the final peices of the 12 second puzzle (650cc injectors and a 2G MAF) So when I get those two things installed I am gonna head out to the track and go balls out and shoot for my 12 sec goal. If something breaks; I'll replace it with something better. I think it has about five 5500+ rpm launches left before it'll become undriveable. :shhh:

Well, it sounds like we have the same problem.

If you figure out what the hell it is....let me know....cuase I would like to fix mine....its annoying

In looking at my driveshaft from the diff point of view it almost looks cocked in this manner "/\" well not that drastic but you get the idea. It kinda pitches up before the lobro joint and then pitches down towards the diff. It is just enough to notice. Does yours do the same and is this normal? I think we need to try this...

I have a 4 bolt and an act 2600 6 puck clutch. My drivetrain makes the same "wub wub wub wub" sound when let off the gas and decelerating, thats a normal sound for my car. I also had the interior taken out when at the track and its a lot louder than when the interior is back in the car. W/ my set up the 6 puck and teh upgraded 4 bolts makes for a bit more chatter is what i think most people call it, but is totaly fine.

Those are your input shaft bearings. Check and see if your transmission is properly aligned. I had the same problem; the noise would go away when I pressed the clutch in.

My car does the same thing,
it is one of these problems or a mix of them.
U-joints
Drivshaft Support joints -the two rubber hoops bolted to car
or the pinion bearing in the rear-end

the bearing is my main problem and will grind when i hold my speed steady.
To check U-Joint grab driveshaft and twist in opposite directions also see if there is any axial movement (up+down) in the joint

i have a 90 AWD also it makes the same noise and so far all the people who have responded saying that "hey i have a 90 it does the same thing" i have a 4-bolt in my car it mad the wub wub wub wub sound too and then my tranny went and if this is only happening in the 90's then we have to look at the differences between the 90 and 91-92.5 drivetrain i know that the trannies are differant lets put our heads together and think ;)

I have a 93 AWD and I'm getting that "wub wub" sound too. I just ignore it because I have other problems to think about but now that I decided to look into it I guess I'm not the only one getting it. What would it be? Bearings somewhere in the rear diff or tranny might be a good bet. I don't think it's the driveshaft, joints, or any of that external driveshaft stuff.

wow, I just got a new clutch put in (slowboy's 3500, amazing clutch, grabs like no other) and I was about to post a thread about how I get what I think is the exact same noise during decel that you are all experiencing. I want to call it a grinding noise, but its definitely more along the lines of a wheel turning thats rubbing up against something causing a "nun...nun...nun....nun....." (or wub if you prefer, LOL). Im gonna give the guy a call that did the install and ask him what his thoughts are.

possible helpful info: my CEL was on and it was determined to be a bad TPS

EDIT: Thank you so much for this description. Its almost exactly what it sounds like and I was having the hardest time describing it:

Well, on galantvr4.org, someone posted this which might be helpful to people that say its coming from the rear of the vehicle. I know that my noise really sounds like a drivetrain issue right under my seat, but I thought this was worth posting either way:

I think I discovered source of "wub wubs" on my car (others experiencing this might want to check their cars)

I was on brake at work messing with my center console.
I opened the armrest storage and pulled the storage box out and noticed my e-brake cable (at the split) was tweaked and out of adjustment.

the cable running on the drivers side was slightly pulled forward due to the cable mount being a little tweaked (the passenger side was fine)

I believe this is causing the rear driver side parking brake to be partially engaged thus causing the soft grinding noise "wub wubs"

I could see the e-brake cable being the culprit if it made the noise all the time...but mine only does it on deceleration (down shifting) if I start slowing down with the shifter in neutral - no sounds. By the way, I had forgotten all about this thread. :thumb:

hi my name is spades_gsx and i to have the noise. on deceleration it happens but i also get something when I make a lane change but only to the right. it is barly noticeable when I make lane change to the left. I recently had a sbr 3500 installed and thats when the noise accured. also when i hold the clutch in and rev the engine(while the car is in gear) i feel a slight vibration in the pedal. any idea will gladly be appreciated.

Every awd DSM I have ever owned/been in has this noise... its just more apparent when you dont have a interior...

I can't remember the specific name of the part that is the cause of this but its really not a problem unless you noticably can hear it getting insanely worse and worse to the point where you feel like your car is going to blow up!
