Hi all,

I am new to posting in the forum, although I have been checking out the site for almost a year now.

I just bought a 97 Tsi AWD with 84K on it. No signs of any problems. Stock as the day it came off the line.

After reading as much about the crankwalk issue as I could find, I am a little concerned. Even though my car shows no signs of this, I feel like I should have the crank and bearing checked by a shop to be sure it's within spec. If I understand correctly, it is a problem you want diagnosed early and fixed correctly.

Anybody know a shop in or near Madison where I can take the car and be confident that they will tell me the truth? I've read that there are issues with shops misdiagnosing the problem and other problems with getting them to fix it correctly.

Am I understanding correctly that this is a safety warranty issue and therefore there is no time limit? No cost to me?

Am I just being paranoid? Is there no need to have it checked unless the car starts showing symptoms?
