I just got an AEM wideband, when wiring to the ECU i believe i want to use Pin 15 - EGR temp, do i splice into this wire or cut it? Also is it required to remove the EGR from the car, or can i just leave the EGR valve on the car without any problems? They like to check for this stuff in the visual inspection in California for smog.
 
When I did mine I just cut the wire and hooked up the white wire (0-5v output) to pin 15. You need to find out if your car has the California Emissions or if it is a Federal Car. Pull up your datalogger and get into the Diagnostic section. It should show up how it is labeled in the ECU. If it's Federal you shouldn't have a problem just cutting the wire and hooking up your WBO2 input. But if it is a California car you might have problems since the ECU actually uses that input for something. When using MMCD and the AEM UEGO you will need to remember that the AFR scale in MMCD is not the same as what the UEGO outputs. MMCD is set up for 0-5V = 8.0 - 22.0 AFR. And the UEGO is 0-5v = 10.0 - 20.0 AFR. Therefore, you have to log the voltage then convert it to AFR as you are reading the log using the AEM's chart in their installation manual.

Sorry, but what is MMCD? I just bought the new version of DSM link for logging, will this work fine with the readouts from the AEM UEGO? Or do i have to do some sort of conversion to get my A/F ratios? Also my car is a federal ecu, i got an EPROM one so the wiring i think i have figured out and i will be removing my EGR valve also. Thanks for the help, i'm very new to this stuff.
 
Nevermind then about converting the values since you have DSMlink. Sorry I'm so used to not dealing with link and using MMCD or TMO.
 
Yes you can wire it into the EGR pin, just hook it straight up to the ECU wire. When you go to captured values in dsmlink, it will have a list of input's and you will just have to select the EGR one, and it will then capture your afr's. Good luck.
 
Ok, thanks for all the help, ill let you know how my venture turns out, im putting my engine back together atm and waiting for my new G60 turbo, fmic, afpr and fuel pump to come in the mail, so it may take a little while for me to be back up and running. This forum has been a huge help to me in my build so far and im sure it will continue to be. Thanks again :thumb:
 
I got my car running today and the wideband appears to be working correctly, now i just gotta get my oil pressure down, thanks again for all the help on wiring up the wideband.
 
So did you have any issues with the EGR system on a California car? Looking to do the same thing.

I too would like to know how your install went, but more importantly how it affected your (California emissions) car. I'm getting ready to install my LC-1 and would like to log it with my Plam Pilot and MMCd. Have you had your car smogged with the EGRT input cut? Did you have any trouble passing emissions testing?

To get around any possible smog issues, I was thinking of putting a SPDT switch at the EGRT input to the ECU to have the ability to switch between using the EGRT as it was desigined for daily driving and using it for logging and tuning sessions.

Does anyone know how the ECU uses the EGRT? How is the actuation or operation of the EGR valve affected as the temp goes up or down?

I never got any answers regarding this so I just went ahead and did it. I cut the EGR input to the ECU and connected the WB output to it. I never had one single problem running the car this way.

I currently have my Greddy boost sensor connected to the EGR input and have moved my WB over to the front O2 input. I have yet to get the car smogged, but I plan to reconnect the EGR input wire before doing so, as I won't be logging during the emissions testing.

sorry if i sound stupid, but i want to hook my wide band to my dsm link, and you said you used the front o2? how did you manage that how does your car run? or did you do the sim narrow band ? and also did you think this would work on a 2g cause i dont know if 1g to 2g makes a difference.

Yes, I have my WB output connected to the front O2 input to the ECU and use Link's "simulate narrowband" feature to feed a narrowband signal into the ECU for closed loop fuel control. It's been working great and I haven't had a single problem or error code come up. I have the narrowband switch point set to run the car at 15.5 AFR during closed loop cruise to increase my gas mileage.

To connect the WB to the front O2 input I simply cut the input wire and connected the WB's output to it. I left the stock O2 installed and connected to keep from throwing any codes for the heater, open circuits, etc.

I don't have any experience with 2G's but, I'm fairly certain that you can wire in your WB to the front O2 and simulate the narrowband signal without any problems. I can't think of any reason there would be. Just leave the stock O2 installed and connected and you should be fine. This means you'll have to wenld in another sensor bung for the WB.

If anyone knows differently or better, hopefully they'll share their thoughts. Good luck.
 
demon, i was looking in dsmlink for the egr input but cant seem to see were it is i thought i would be with the others but i dont see it, so how did you get the link to see that it is a wide bans signal opposed to the egr? thanks
 
On the ECU Inputs tab ECU Config there is a list of pin assignemnts at the top. Baro, coolant temp, EGR Temp, Front O2 and Intake temp are listed as possible inputs to the ECU. Click in the area to the right of EGRTemp under the "Connected sensor" column and you can select what WB you are using. If yours is not listed, just select Linear wideband. Under the sensor description column you can give the WB a name.

You'll have to click save pin assignments to save the settings to the ECU. If you want to use your WB to simulate the narrowband O2 go down to the "Wideband (WB)" drop down menu and select EGR Temp or whatever pin you decided to connect the WB to. IT should match what you did in the steps outlined in the previous paragraph.

Now you have to tell the ECU that you want to log the EGR Temp input which is now your WB O2. Hit F10 (Captured values) and select the WB you just configured above. Then hit F9 (displayed values) and select the WB for display.

If you selected Linear Wideband as your WB, you can setup its configuration by doube clicking it in the displayed log. Set the lower and upper limits of its operational limits (0 to 5 volts). Should work if you did everything correctly.
