Wiring question- Im lighting my center taillight - Fuse ?

use the same lights that you use in you taillights...they work perfect

Yea but its hard to make room theres like 3.5 inches to work with and they generate heat. ALso they are alot bigger and need the socket to be mounted into. I was looking into it though.

I will deffinately fuse it you think a 15 amp between the battery and relay and also one between the source and relay? Thanks again.

The wiring for the extra lights, (from the battery) should be of a gage to safely handle the load of the bulbs that you are using. Your wiring should handle more power than the load itself. The fuse, then, should be sized greater than the load, but smaller than the acceptable limit of the wiring. If the amp draw of the load is much less than the capabilities of the wiring, fuse it closer to the load.

Hypothetical example: Lighting pulls 4A, but you are better safe than sorry, and run wiring capable of bearing a constant 20A draw. Fuse it for 5 amps.

You should not need to fuse the signal source for the relay, if you are using the tail-light circuit. Relays draw very little power to function, and that circuit is already fused.

got it so what wiring for 3 55W bulbs and I think that calculated out to be a 15amp fuse

Well, since your battery is in your trunk, that lets you run a shorter length of wire. I am guessing 3' would be enough to run from the battery, through the relay, to the bulbs. Based on that, 16 gage would work, (0.5v drop) but I would go with 14.

15amp fuse would be about perfect.

Nice, thanks again guys for the finishing touches Ill be sure to add you in the tech artice as soon as it comes through approval. Im gonna yank the fogs relay and wire it up as soon as the monsoon/snowstorm ends...Fu(kin North east

You can go here and use their voltage calculator http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm 18 guage should be just fine. If you plan on taping into that for anything in the future, than run a 16 Ga line. 25 ft of line should cost no more than 4.00 well depending on how updated the store is and what copper costs last month. A relay is between 2 and 3 dollars, depending on where you get it, and if you wanted a pigtail, its another 2 dollars.
Do put a fuse on the load bearing line to the relay, your 18 or 16 ga line. This line will be powering your lighs, all the draw will be on this line. The line your tapping from is only an activation line and the voltage being pull is nearly nothing, and like said before is already fused. Put your fuse closest to the battery.

If it were me I would use the 16, not much more, and over a 15 foot run, much better continuity.

15 amp fuse will work just fine, don't put in anything larger. You also might want to look into an H3-35 bulb instead of that 55. Less draw, less heat. You will eventually melt the rear plastic with either one, a fog light gets hotter than a tail light.

Hey yea I took the time to sink the fogs all the way to the frame...they are far enough from the tail lense that it will be fine...that was the hardest part, but I did it. I had them on for 30 minutes and there was no problems- just got alittle warm. Since my battery is in the trunk I will only have about 3 feet from the bateryt to the lights, so I will go with the 16 size and and fuse it at the battery. Thanks for the help guys and Like I said Ill put your info in my tech under your names. Thanks again.
