As opposed to taking the complete wire out of the 2g plug and soddering the 1g wires in there, can one just splice the wires and use regular electrical connectors to connect the maf plugs together? Would this create any problems? I would see this being the easiest because it would allow one to switch back and forth from 2g to stock (reason for me being emissions inspections). If anyone has already done this and has any feedback that would be great thanks.

Yea i have done it twice and it works fine,, the only drawback is it look ghetto... But i used crimp connectors and as long as you can get a good connection you can get away with it...

You could solder a 2G connector into the 1G harness if you wanted. You however don't want to use vampire taps anywhere that's critical and the MAF counts as critical.

If correctly done there is no reason you can't pass emisions with a 2G MAF on a 1G.

well i have an intake with the maf and here in washington where i live at least the car must pass a visual inspection and if everything isnt stock it fails so yea i need to be able to switch back and forth and im not sure if i would be able to make a good wiring harness from two plugs so yea

no they wouldnt be able to tell the difference between one maf and another but the chrome intake would stick out, i suppose i could just paint it black

Allright I have a 1g gst we just put the 2g maf with the "mystery plug" from that diagram at the top of the page. Now car smokes at idle and smells terrible. Why is this? Is my wiring wrong, if i wired it wrong wouldnt the car not run? Also if there are any other websites that are simplier or u guys know the exact colors to match up / pin numbers for the 1g to 2g maf please let me know thanks.

Also the car when in gear and u let off the gas and is coasting it wants to buck by itself also it doesnt run as smooth as it did with the 1g.

You need something to compensate for having the 2g MAF. Its recommended that you run 550's and have something to tune with when you do this upgrade.

Quoted from the Vfaq.
The 1G MAF has a lot of drawbacks to it, the biggest being that it is too small for enough airflow for high horsepower applications without major mods. The 2G MAF is much larger, with more than 50% higher cross-sectional area to flow through. If you are having problems with MAF overrun (see the Talon Digest Archives for details), you can either hack your 1G MAF up and hope you can tune the car properly with an AFC or similar fuel control, or you can run the Al Blaha MAF (which is hacked, just more expertly, with electronics changes), or you can install a 2G MAF with an AFC. I personally think that the 2G MAF is the best overall choice for a street driven car. If you install 550s at the same time as the 2G MAF, very little tuning should be necessary on the AFC to have the car running as strong as ever, without the MAF overrun problems.

we did this with my last 1g. we did the 2g maf and 550s but it ran exttrreemmeelllyy rich and even with an afc we couldnt get it to tune right, we had many ppl look at it and said we shouldnt have done the 550s. but if anyone else has imput please share with me thanks a lot guys

This web site has what your looking for but you need to keep searching. I pulled this from a old post of mine.

Pin 1 on the 2G connector goes to the green/red wire that was pin 4 on the 1G harness.
Pin 2 on the 2G connector goes to the green/yellow wire that was pin 7 on the 1G harness.
Pin 3 on the 2G connector goes to the green/blue wire that was pin 2 on the 1G harness.
Pin 4 on the 2G connector goes to the red wire that was pin 3 on the 1G harness.
Pin 5 on the 2G connector goes to the green/black wire that was pin 6 on the 1G harness.
Pin 6 on the 2G connector goes to the green/orange wire that was pin 8 on the 1G harness.
Pin 7 on the 2G connector goes to the green/white wire that was pin 1 on the 1G harness.
Pin 8 on the 2G connector has nothing.

If your car smokes/smells/drives poorly after installing a 2g MAF and compensating for the flow, it means you probably installed it incorrectly. If the ECU doesn't see a valid MAF signal, it doesn't have any airflow readings to go by and goes into limp mode. It just basically guesses how much fuel you need and then adds a lot more to make sure it's not running lean.

steve you are the man thank you so much LOL

ok now that i rewired everything and hooked it all up, the car when you first start it up stalls a lot and doesnt run good. once it warms up it gets better but it hesitates sometimes when getting on the gas. i have just the 2g maf, with aluminum intake pipe. what do you guys think?

Post a seperate thread with your problem and it will probably get answered.
