will a stretched timing belt bend valves?

i was wondering if a stretched timing belt would bent the valves. the guy that i bought the car off of said that he parked it as soon as it started missing. so i would apperciate any and all comments.

If your timing belt is stretched, it has slack in it which allows the belt to jump. then you will bend valves for sure. Id replace the belt, tensioner, and then do a compression test to see if you have bent valves.

First, Edit your profile. We can't really help if we don't know what you have or what you have done to it.

You might line your marks up to see which cam has jumped. It can be either one or both. If it's just "stretched" and has not jumped, go ahead and change it. If it has jumped, you might change it and do a comp test like DakotaPSI has suggested above just to keep from wasting time on a head that has to come off anyway.
