Ok, i've been on 10,000 DSM sites and asked and searched for the same question and everyone gives me a different answer.

Will a 1G n/t tranny bolt up to a 1G turbo motor?!? Some people say you need the n/t flywheel and clutch, some say you dont that it will bolt right up. Some say the n/t tranny will bolt up but is weaker, some say it will bolt up and is just as strong. What in the hell is the truth?

I tried using the turbo flywheel and clutch opn my n/t tranny and bolted right up.But the motor would not turn cause the pressure plate was jamming against the bell housing, seems from what i have experienced, the n/t has less clearance in the bell housing than the turbo.Bottom line the only way for it to work like i have it right now,is to use the n/t flywheel.i lost second gear though synchros gone.

What kind of clutch are you using with that setup (stage 1, stage 2, etc.) and does it slip with hard driving? The clutch size difference isnt that huge or anything. 8 1/4 for the n/t and 8 7/8 for the turbo.

The diameter of the bellhousing for a N/T is 10.5" and 11.5" for the turbo version... Therefore you'd need the N/T flywheel. Listen to mavisky, he knows his stuff I'm sure he's gone through a few transmission in his time.

Now that I didn't know. I have the turbo FWD trans, ACT 2100 clutch, and Fidanza flywheel on my NT. Only thing is the trans slightly touches the sub frame due to its larger size.

Front and rear engine mounts are different on the fwd turbos. I have a tech article telling you how to install a turbo trans into an nt chassis in the transmission section of the tech articles.

I stripped the teeth off of 3rd gear on three n/t transmissions with just a 14b.

A 1g turbo fwd tranny wouldn't cost you $400+, infact they are also dirt cheap, hard to find a stock one that doesn't have a grind though because their garbage.

The only ones i've found around here had a lot of miles and were in the $400 range. All the junkyars have piles and piles of n/t trannys but no turbo trannys. Found a few AWD's but no FWD's. I've found cheaper ones that were in cali, but shipping cost is crazy

If the dsm isn't your DD id say wait a while more. Someone will have a good one that will sell it cheap, if you have a local dsm site, or craigslist(which is full of garbage).

I called Sweeney's today which is a local DSM salvage yard and he said that all 1G 4G63's and 4G63T's came with the F5M33 tranny, and the 4G37's came with the f5M22. So I guess as long as it comes of a 4G63 I can use it with the turbo fly/clutch. Unless he is talking out of his ass and doesnt know anything.

The F5M33 is the TURBO transmission

The F5M22 is the 1.8 NON-TURBO transmission

Now according to the Haynes Manual: The FWD non-turbo and turbo DOHC engines used the F5M33 transmission. However, the N/T transmission has weaker internals. I.E. the gears, case, everything in the NT transmission is small and weak.

Hahaha, I just took the tranny out today and it says F5M22xxxx on the side of it! I guess he already put an n/t fly/clutch in before I bought it. This could explain why it blew a hole in it after 5 days of driving.

I think the Haynes book is wrong, every 2.0NT I saw has the F5M22. Not saying that it isn't possible just going by what I see 100% of the time. Both of the 91 Talons I bought had them.

I just confirmed this, my N/T transmission says F5M22 as well.

why not make it an awd then? I see rear sub frames all the time for cheap. Go on...you will love it.

i have put a non turbo tranmission in a turbo car, you have to use the non turbo clutch and flywheel because the depth of the turbo tranmission is deeper onthe turbotranmission and the non turbo will hit the pressure plate of a turbo fwd clutch, if you use the non turbo stock flywheel it will slip like crazy, the car i put the tranmissin in was a 90 auto with the 13g swap the 5 speed,
