Hi guys, I have a 92 Galant vr4. has a SAFC thats been hooked up since january, no problems there, over the past four months I have been gettin a CEL of code 44 (coil packs) since i have replaced it with about three known working ones, but the code still pops up. now it has gone away (no idea how), now i got 5 codes, I dont remember exactly the number but I do know what they are for. 1)Cam Angle Sensor. 2) Coolant temp (I havent had a sensor on my thermostat housing since I bought the car and it hasnt appeared til now) 3) TDC, 4) Barometric, and the 5)Air Temp sensor, IDK whats going on, I had the maf changed with my friends GOOD maf from his 92 talon tsi awd, and it still pops the codes, I also redid the wires to the safc today, still no luck, Can it be my ECU itself???? please let me know, I am going to the track sunday. Thanks
-Shane

You might want to pull the ECU out and check the caps. They have a tendency to explode. Conversely if you have any friends that have a similar car you could swap the ECU to see if the codes disappear. Check your wiring too. It's a pretty old car and wires tend to get frayed or connections get corroded.

They all hit me within the last three days. all at once, its like the end of the world or something -___-. also i opened the ecu, seemed to be some kind of sticky substance, on the board. but it didnt smell like anything, my friend smelled it, said it was fine, but i smelled it and another friend smelled it, and smelt like rotten fish type.....but would the car start up with a leaking cap?

Yea the car can still start depending on the severity of it, Sounds like your ECU is about to bite it. Is the sticky substance all over the board or just near the capacitors mostly?

its not all over, its a little bit smaller than a quarter. but its on the board. if i remember its not near a capacitor but i could be wrong. its kinda brown, tar like color. but kind of translucent at the same time

Im pretty sure its my ecu because why would all the codes pop up at once??? and it faintly smells like rotting fish.

the way it is I was getting an air intake temp of -59*C, and batt was 18.6v baro was 1.24 or something like that, and just looking at the pics seems that I may have a messed up ecu. Thanks guys I will switch my ecu with my homies after class and get back to you.

yup , my homies ecu worked perfectly, no codes, smooth acceleration. done deal =]. now where am I going to find one by saturday? ahaha

A couple of EPROMs will pull a premium before RaceWars.

You may be able to find someone local to attempt a rebuild. I'd recommend sending it to Thomas, but that won't fit your schedule.
