I've been wondering this for a while but never asked it. I've been around Chevy's for a long time and one of the common upgrades to do is upgrading the MAS with an aftermarket one like this Performance MAS

Well i've seen that replacing the honeycomb air sensor on dsm's with the stock gm mas increases horsepower by alot, and these performance ones increase hp on gm vehicles alot, so why not use one of these instead of the stock gm one on a dsm? Does it have something to do with the maft translator?

Just curious :)

Because these performance GM MAFs redo air calculations for the GM ECU. They're not calibarated for DSM use.

I suppose a MAF upgrade for the GM MAF we use would work. We buy used MAF's for $50. and the aftermarket ones are $389. like the example you gave. That leaves $340. for other mods that would give more power. The GM MAF's flow enough for our 2.0liters, even turbocharged. Mark

They are not neccesary for our cars when there are more affordable and proven options.
