Why is my car doing this?

Hey guys, wondering if your car does this as well. Most of the time when I let off the throttle or down shift to 2nd for a turn, the exhust sounds nice and tight. However lately sometimes my car would jerk a bit and sound like there's too much back pressure or something even at low rpm. What's my car trying to tell me? Thanks.

Are you saying that now when you let off the throttle your car jerks? Or does your car's exhaust back fire? Also, does the same thing happen when you are idling or just when you are letting off the throttle at low speeds?

This happens at any speed but not all the time when I downshift or let off, car rocks back and forth a lil and settles down. It does back fire some times.

Ever since I did my fmic I can smell gas from time to time, especially when the fan comes on so I know I'm running rich. Why I don't know. Also have a exhust leak at the gasket which I'll be attanding to soon. I figure the gas I smell is from the leak.

Could running rich be causing this?

I had a friend had a backfiring problem, and bad idling, etc, etc...what it turned out to be was a bad Idle Speed Control Switch, that could be a problem, they tend to go bad but only cost like $45-100 depending on how good of a deal you can find, plus they are very easy to replace too.

i would also check your spark plugs, the FMIC to my knowledge is not going to make you run rich. All it does is cool the air going to your turbo, unless something was changed or not plugged back in when you did the install, I would also go back through and double check, I have done that before, :thumb: . Your exhaust could also be a problem too, depending on how bad a leak it is.

1. I did change the plugs at the same time, I'll check the gaps.
2. The car does idle bad but only once in a while as well, I'll look into the isc.
3. Exhust leak is not so bad, the ticking goes away after the car warms up all though it's been getting worst. It's missing the upper left stud, I couldn't drill it out last time but will try again soon.

Thanks forthe help :thumb:
