First off I read on a thead somewhere that the nonturbo 2.0l trans would fit in a turbo can for a temp. fix IT WON'T!!, the belhouseIng is different ALMOST 1 INCH SMALLER IT WON'T CLEAR THE FLYWHEEL!
Second the washers behind the pivot ball work great I won't ever pull a trans with out putting them in there again!
3rd useing a ACT presure plate with the stock disk WILL F-UP YOUR TRANS:cry: please follow the directions ACT printed them for a reason!
4th an ACT 2900 and extream disk are NOT a good street combonation It grips fine (I can chirp 4th gear!!! quite fun:D ) but engagement if rather quick

and for the question, If the the non turbo flywheel is smaller in diameter therfor lighter and since the ACT clutch kit fit nt and turbo cars could you use a $20 junk yard nt flywheel for a performance advantage? would it be worth pulling the trans. to install it?

edit: the N/T clutch IS differant from the turbo

Leon's right.

A turbo car can use an nt tranny but you'll need the 2.0 nt flywheel and an upgraded 2.0 nt clutch (or take it really easy on it) to make it all work. Also the little plate on the back of the motor with the starter hole cutout won't work anymore as the starter's holes wil be in the wrong place too.

Be careful doing this though as the nt gears are shitty, I've killed 3 tranny's on 14b myself by stripping the teeth straight off of 3rd gear. Also the stock nt clutch can't even take wot on stock'ish boost levels on a 14b so you'll have to drive it around carefully or upgrade the clutch which makes the whole point of using the nt tranny pointless.

I wish I would have checked a little harder on here befor I spent all night trying to install a n/t trans,
I do have good news while my stock trans was out I replaced the stock disk( yes I was running a 2900# plate with the stock disk) with ACT xtream street disk and did the washer behind the pivot ball trick it quit grinding when I shifted. I also removed the (busted)bushings on the shift cable(where it mounts to the trans) and replaced them with washers and the center metal peice of the old bushings, this won't hurt anything will it? The cables don't have any play and they used to move a 1/2 inch!
Thank for the help
buy the way I ran a 14.33 at 100 mph friday. I know it's not fast but it was the first time I ever raced. any help you can give me on getting off the line better would help. Everone at the track said if I could launch the car right I would run high 13's. I guess with time I will learn how
I'll up date my profile with the time slip when I can use my friends camra again

NT clutch and flywheel are radically diffrent from their Turbo (AWD or FWD) counterparts. So you can not mix and match those parts! But I am pretty sure that if you were to install an NT FW and clutch, your NT tranny should fit.

No it doesn't fit. I tried that myself also. The bellhousing is much smaller for some reason. It's not even close, it does however look similiar, so unless you weld it to the block (aluminum to iron) it's not gonna stay there. That or if you plan on simply relying on the tranny mount to hold the tranny at the crank...

And bigblock, i feel your pain man.

Are you saying that a 4g63 n/t bellhousing, clutch and flywheel wouldn't bolt to a turbo
4g63 block? Did you swap the steel shim that goes in betweel the engine and transmission?

Don't know about the clutch and flywheel, but the bellhousing is different as well as smaller on the n/t version and I'm 100% sure about that, and it came to me a great dissapointment, believe me. Happened about a year ago to me, after which time I got a turbo parts car and got my current tranny from there.

I measured the bolt patern and the top 2 bolts are both about 5 1/4 inches but the size is smaller, and the overall lenth differs too about 1/2"

edit: sorry about the large pics I don't know how to resize them

When you say "NT" are you talking about 1.8 or 2.0 NT engines?

I have a 4g63 N/T tranny on a turbo 4g63 in a fwd car sitting in my driveway. A
4g63 is a 4g63 weather it's a turbo block or a n/t block, the bellhousing are interchangeable as long as you use the correct flywheel, clutch, and block/tranny shim. The only thing I can think of is you are talking about a 1.8 like Leon said. I've never seen one so I don't know if the belhousing is different. You should clarify though so people don't go thinking that a N/T 4g63 bellhousing doesn't fit a turbo 4g63, because it does.

I'm talking about the 2.0l
I'm sure they would fit IF you used the n/t flywheel and shims
but 1am is not the time to learn this if you have to leave for work @ 6am

Jesus people it's really simple.

All of the awd, fwd, and fwd 2.0 nt transmissions are interchangeable on a fwd dsm. You just have to take certain steps. As it applies to the thread poster's fwd turbo this what you'd need to do to make each one fit.

1. Fwd Turbo transmission - nothing obviously as this is the transmission it should have.

2. Awd Turbo transmission - For this tranny you'll need a new shim to locate the starter bolt holes correctly, a new passenger side transmission mount, you'll have to use the awd turbo flywheel, and obviously alter the internals so that it no longer has the output shaft for the transfer case.

3. 2.0 NT trans - For this install you'll need the 2.0 nt shim to locate the starter holes, you'll need the nt transmission mount, the 2.0 nt flywheel and clutch assembly, and depending on what year turbo transmission you have you may need to switch to the smaller axles that the nt's used. (93-93 fwd turbo's had larger axles at the transmission.

Now if you wanted to put a 2.0 turbo transmission into your 2.0 nt then you'll need to follow the Tech Article I wrote about doing such a swap which can be found here.

At one point or another I've had an awd transmission, 3 fwd nt transmissions, and a fwd turbo transmission in my car so I'm telling you all this from my personal experience, not just some BS I read on the internet somewhere.

Thread over.
