im not new to dsm's or racing
just new to racing dsm's
i grew up in a 65-67 mustang garage for drag racing
ive had 4 dsm's all 1g
ive decided to build my 1g motor
ive been searching parts and such
and have pretty much decided every thing except for
my piton/rod combo
i should prolly explain what kinda performance im looking to get out of my car
i want it to still be a daily driver but as fast as i can get it
no rough idle
i was thinking about crower rods with with wiseco pistons
would this be best for my application?
thanks
josh

If your not really on a budget then the Crower or Manley rods are 1000+ HP rods. If you are on a budget, then the $300 Eagle H beam and Scat rods are easily 600 HP rods. Lots of people use the Eagle/ Scat rods and have raced them, but if you have the extra cash, the go crower or manley for added peace of mind.

As for pistons, my preference is Wisecos. Read my post on this thread, number 7, it explains my reasoning.

Hope this helps, Dan

I would go with an eagle wiseco combination or an Scat wiseco combination.

If you want to rev the $^#$ out of it get the ARP L19 rod bolt upgrade.

They all come with ARPs but ARP has different grades..

The basic ARP rod bolts are great..

Those with a dual synchro 1-4 race trans or a dogbox shifting higher than heck could use the extra strength margin of the most expensive ARP rod bolt.. I am probably sure that even the regular ones could do it but hey... A little more strength at the same weight it worth it.

I've got the Eagle rod/Wiseco piston combo and my car is driven year round with no problems. Most people would be just fine with a 1g big rod/2g piston combo. Its cheap, its an excellent upgrade, don't have to worry about piston slap, and it will hold most of what you throw at it.

Here is what needs to be done to hang the 2g pistons on the 1g rods.

It all depends on your budget and what kind of HP goals you have. I personally went with Pauter rods and Ross pistons.

Personally I would go with the scat rods because they are H-Beam and have an extra oil provision for a little better oil flow for the money. Ross pistons are also very good for the money at 8.5.1 compression.

I agree with Lunch_Box How much hp are you going for? I'm just upgrading pistons on my rebuild with new hardware for the shortblock. I mean i know alot of ppls use 2g pistons but tell you the truth with pistons & rings would probaly run you around 300-350 So why not just spend more money and get aftermarket piston. Also 1g rod is strong enough to handle alot of power unless you want to go for 500-600 whp.

the way i am looking at it is if you are going to build your engine why not build it bullet proof?

def agree if ## building ## motor dont cut corners or buy cheap ish my rod and piston combo i got is crower over sizied rods and ross over sized pistons is ideal if ## going with a stroker build and if you have a car to get u around do the research and take ## time also look for proven specs and tech articles google.com is a wonder full tool and dsmparts.com are for the most part very good pricing wise if ## thinking about stroker build pm me
