Where's all the interior lights?

super noob question here, its drving me nuts. I have a 97 gs that i'm getting back on the road, bought it used.
So it has the power moonroof and at night, the interior is totally dark. Aren't there any interior lights that are supposed to come on when you open the doors? It's so dark in there! It took me about a week to notice two little map lights on the rearview, but I have to manually put them on.
My other question, is there a way to disable the 14 or so chimes when i put my key in the ignition? Damn that's annoying. I don't need a muscial salute when i start the car, .

When you open your door there are two lights under the mirror that would come on.

when your doors are open does a red light go on in the dash cluster showing the open door ? if not then you need to replace the pin switchs in each door jam

the interior lights are horrible in 2Gs with a sunroof.. I dunno about the ones without.. but I've never seen a car with worse interior lighting.. there should be a dome light behind the sunroof.. It's on my list of things to do, or modifying the current lighting to illuminate the back aswell as the front.

yea its the pin switchs then. ive had a few 2gs and the pin switchs went bad on all of them. the pin switchs are what tells the cars that the doors are open and thus makes it turn on your dome lights. they are towards the bottem of the door jam on the quarter panel side near the bottem covered by a little rubber boot
