I'm getting alternator whine, and from what i've been told, i have to check my grounds. The thing is, i've checked them over and relocated them over n over, and still alternator whine. So where do you guys ground your amps?

Did you run your RCA and power feeds together? If so, you're probably picking up the noise from the power wire that way.

i have a 4 channel kicker...but its not the amp, i tried it on two diff amps, same thing

yeah, its gotta be that youre running the rca's with the power cable. i ran the rca's through the middle console and under the carpet, and the power down the pass. side.

and youre ground points, make sure you take a file or wire brush and scrape off the paint until you see a really shiny metal surface, thatll ensure a good ground.

Rear seat belt bolt with 4 gauge wire and gold connectors. Makes a great, strong ground point to the frame of the car.

I also ran my power wire down the left side of the car alongside the remote turn on. RCA's are run through the center console to eliminate noise. I have no alternator whine at all, and the system sounds great once you get rid of the craptasic factory speakers.

Also, check to make sure that your head unit is grounded properly. Bad grounds at the head can introduce noise before it hits the amp.

Matt.

I took out the rear seat and grounded my 1200 watt mtx to the big bolt right under the seat. There should be a bigger bolt that doesnt have anything even bolted down to it. It is just kinda filling up a hole.

Thats exactly what I did when I had my system, but I had 0 gauge

As said it is probably your RCA's picking up noise.

I have my amp power, 3 sets of RCA's, FP rewire, amp remote and CD changer all on the same side. No noise, but I use nice RCA's.

I'm doing a small amp and single sub..

I ran the power on the underside of the chasis secured tightly, out of the way and away from heat...

Use a fuse at the battery.. Duh but we all know someone could run w/o out one..

Remove the pass side rear access pannel... Where you change tail light bulbs... In the power cable 4ga fits.. along side the lights drain tube between it and the grommet.. drill two holes in the plastic where you want them and ground to sheet metal behind that panel...

Don't run power cable external. the jackets are honestly not designed for it anymore, and you can run up to a 2 gauge with ease inside the passenger side sills.

You could have pinched an RCA. on my 4ht reinstall I pinched one and had to replace them all, but I have 2guage to the trunk, 2 sets of rcas (regular Scosche from Autozone), and the lines for Door subs, right front components, turn on lead and changer cable all run together in the doorsill channel. 0 whine or noise. 2gs have very little if any alternator whine.

try running a different rca temporarily from the head to the amp. Does the whine go away when you disconnect the RCAs? where is the head grounded at? DID you install it yourself?

Here is something you can do...

do not screw the amp to chassis ground. That sets up the possibility of a ground loop. If you remove the amp screws and it is not touching metal, what happens?

EDIT: I did not answer the thread topic question. Mine is grounded on the big brace that runs between the strut tower (the one the floor attaches to). Used to be on top now it is on the back side, and the amp is mounted on the trunk board (1/4 mdf) I made to replace the oem one when it broke.
