Where do you guys cut/weld your shifter arms?

I already cut it, where do most of you do the second cut?

I plan on installing a 2g shift knob. I want it as low as possible without interfering with the hole it comes out of.
Also, does anyone know how much taller than the tip of threads the 2g shifter is? (how much taller than the shift arm will it be?

You shouldnt have to cut it. The 2g knob is way shorter. Mine sits pretty low.

Greddy makes an awesome short shifter. The shortest ive ever seen. So no cutting or welding involved. I was always told our 1gs dont like that short of a shift but it has worked for me. Only downside is it does make it alittle harder to put it in reverse.

I didn't have to cut mine with a 2g shift knob. It already sat low enough for me, but its all about preference I suppose.

Ummmm the shifter on 1gs with a 2g knob are already to short why would you wanna make it shorter? You will have less leverage and slower shifts. Buy a fidanza short shifter sits up like stock but is longer below the pivot point to make shorter shifts.

I have an original too. I wouldnt cut my only shift arm... I have my factory one. Everytime i do permanant mods, that could mess something up, I do it on junkyard parts. I guess when i finally score a 2g knob, Ill put it on my short one, then on my factory one. See which one i like better.

So the consensus is... Dont cut it. Gotcha.

I have a greddy and I love it. Id recommend buying one, they only run $60-120 ish and they usually come with bearings and all things needed to install!

I cut mine years ago! I cut the round shaft at the bottom, ground the weld flat, cut about 1" or so off the shaft, and rewelded it. With skatewheel bearings on the cables and solid shifter mounts it was a HUGE improvement over stock!
