:toobad: I drove my car and my manifold fell apart.... I guess good welding work SS autochrome , but anyways i was waiting for that to happen anyways :D You get what you pay for , guys thats the first and the most important rule , dont forget it.

i would definatlly go with the stock oem 2g manifolds or heck even a 1g before i bought anything else... ported or unported.. reliablity all the way.. and if it cracks you can get one for 50 bucks....
 
Wow...SBR cracking? I guess I would go for the new FP manifold. That thing looks sweet. Now all I need is the $$$. Or an Evo3. Good luck!
 
I would get an Evo 3 manifold over the ebay crap or the SBR. You can basically get two Evo 3 manifolds for the price of one Sbr manifold and I just wouldnt want to deal with the Ebay manifold.

Good luck finding a 1g that's not cracked.

Warharan; If and when you do weld that crack, drill a small hole at the each end of the crack before welding it. This will help it for cracking more after it is welded.
 
Dude, if you were going to be running a tubular Manifold on a DD you should have at least braced it. Personaly I would have no problem with the thought of running a ebay manifold.

1.) I'd brace it, and would could bet that it would never fall apart like that.
2.) If it did crack I'd reweld.
3.) If the thing even was total junk, you still could grind all the welds off and reweld it for about the same price as making one, plus no need to mess around with fitment.

SS Turbo Flange= $20
SS WG Flange= $20
SS Head Flange= $40
SS Weld el's= $60 ($5 a piece)
plus you have shipping and welding supplies on top of it. And alot of cutting, fittment, time, ect...

SBR has the EVOIII manifolds going for $139 shipped right now (but you gotta call). It's rediculous. I'm tempted to buy one just because... There is absolutely no excuse to be buying Ebay manifolds right now. :p

I had an Xs power tubular manifold on my evo 3 it broke just abobe the flange so i got it welded, someday its gonna break again so i think i´ll stick to the oem manifold just for some peace of mind :D
 
Yes sir, Delta 488 has it right! Those FP manifolds look great, and I bet they work gr8 too!

AS for porting^^^ AMS does a good job porting. They ported the O2 and the turbo on my old 1ga. If the manifold is used I believe they charge between $15-25 dollars more bc its harder to port.

Is it harder to port a used manifold because all of the heat cycles it has gone through?
 
Thank you. I know it was a simple question but I was just curious if it was going to be caused by the heat cycles making the metal harder. :thumb:

Umm, it's 448 not 488. I'd explain my tag, but nobody would want to read it.

AMS is one of the top names in Evo tuning, they have a low 9 second street driven Evo 8 that made the cover story of a few magazines awhile back. They certainly know what they're doing.
 
Yes, but is the extent of the porting going to be the same or better? Also, the used mani is harder to port as already noted, so the price would reflect that.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I'm assuming you're talking about a shop that we are all probably familiar with, one that is local to me (about 1.5 hr drive), one with about the worst customer service you'll ever experience.

Yep what I was thinking ...I am wondering when people are going to use the search button and read about the stuff they want to buy before they do (it's called do your homework) and then people want to put pics and complain about it .......

These manifolds are a given :notgood:

You make it sound like people think that these are high quality. When you buy these most know that there not top notch. I went with a t4 set up and ran out of cash so I bought one and through it on. My car is far from a daily driver it might see 5k a year. With that said I would never buy one of these for a stock mitsu turbo ecspecially daily driven. When mine does crack and Im sure it will I will upgrade to a nicer one.:thumb:
 
Over on supraforums someone did a metallurgical test on a tubular header for a 2jz or whatever supras run. He does aerospace quality control for a living. His conclusion, you get what you pay for, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Many of the welds did not have full penetration, the flanges were not true SS, more of a plated mild steel if I remember right, the turbo lacked bracing, and the tube design was not as efficient as it could be.

That being said, the guy added some braces, re-welded a few things, and for an extra $50 he's got a manifold he feels is comparable to the $600 manifolds being sold elsewhere in strength and flow.

With proper bracing and good welds I think even thiner wall mild steel could hold up to turbo abuse. I'd like to make a budget mild steel thin wall header someday just to see what happens... with an ebay turbo and a junk engine :D

That FP manifold is quite the nice piece! If I had money to spare and a car that ran I'd jump all over that thing!

Is that the fuel pump humming in that EVO? Damn that's loud!
