1G Wheel Dimensions

I am wondering what size wheel and tire setup I should go with. I have a 1g talon, and drive it daily. I kinda like the look of the stock 16" wheel to tire ratio, but going up to 17" wheels gives me so much options. I want the widest tire possible, and I guess the highest offset would be best also?

I was thinking of going with 17" Volk GTN's.
I also read by searching that: 245/40/17s on 17x8 +40mm, is ideal for 2g's; is it the same for 1g's?

just make sure the tire is the same diameter as the stock setup, easy to do with a 1989 Casio calculator watch or online tire size calculator.

You'll probably be happiest with either a 225/45/17 tire on a 17x7 or 17x8 rim, 40 or 42 mm offset. Give the most tire and wheel options.

I personally went with a 225/40/18 on an 18x7.5 wheel, 42mm offset and am very happy with it, though many would bi*** about the extra rotational inertia, to which I say stfu it's a daily driver, the 15s and r-compounds are for racedays only. I now realize that I could probably go to a 235 tire on the same wheels and offset and same brand tire, but that would be putting the tire very close to the spring perch.

Do they stick out any with the 42mm offset? How close are your 225's to the struts now?

no, they don't stick out with the 42mm offset. I think it looks just right, I wouldn't go any lower though, which you would have to do in order to run a wider wheel and tire combination. I haven't taken any measurements yet, since my tires are brand new and I won't be replacing them anytime soon, but I'd say there's maybe 10mm between the tire and spring perch, at it's closest point. Theoretically one could easily run a 235 with that clearance, but you have to take into account the aspect ratio and sizing differences between brands and even tire line also.
