alright guys, I figured out that my wheel bearings is pretty much shot....do any of you guys know where the cheapest place they sell them? I've looked around numerous sites, but came up with $150+/each.....it's for a 2G AWD, so I would practically have to buy a new hub....any cheap online sites you know of, let me know!! :thumb: :dsm:

Just do a Conicelli run. They want around 120 for 'em.

Also be aware that it's a bi*** of a job, and you're most likely going to have to get your axles pressed out of the old bearing.

I thought that might be it, but wanted to have some fun. In return, I'll second that it's a bi***, although with a 97 he's go a shot at it.

Eh, that's what I thought when I did mine. He's got a shot of getting it apart 90%.

I ended up just taking the whole suspension arm piece off and giving it to a machine shop to have the axle pressed out, after snipping the ABS lines as well (Rusted to the suspension hub...) Guess I don't have anymore ABS... ;)

The castle nuts are no big deal, if you're willing to cold chisel them off, but there's just too much rust that binds them together. DON'T HIT IT WITH A SLEDGE. It'll just make it worse.

I replaced my left wheel bearing at LP mitsubishi in ft.lauderdale. I paid $105 for mine and $20 to install it. (yes $20,.... I have bought and spend so much there, They should give me a kiss every time I walk in that place.)

If you ever in the ft.lauderdale area go see John Deschert, he will give you a discount if you mention your that you in a DSM club.

I watched him installed the wheel bearing:
1. Remove wheel.
2. Remove Brake caliper.
3. Remove Brake Rotor (and let hang out of the way)
4. Remove Brake caliper shield.
5. Remove two 17mm bolts holding wheel bearing.
6. Use a rubber mallet to Remove wheel bearing.
7. Lubricate bearing with hi-temp lube
8. Re-install steps 6 thru 1.
Drink a beer, BBBbbbuuurrpppp!!!!
have wheels aligned.

Yeah, that works great where you don't have this thing us northerners call "snow" and unsalted roads. ;) When you have rust, it turns into a really fun game of torches, pullers, and presses.

:) so sorry cait!!!!! A DSM AWD loves snow but hates salt!!!

So far every car that ive worked on for suspension, rust has been my new best friend. :p
Caith smith- your right a slege hammer will actually damage the threads on the end and actually compress the metal too(trust me its been done ;) )

Rick 4g63- replacing wheel bearings still requires the use of press or a bearing remover/installer because the parts of the wheel bearing assembly is press fit. The part that holds the wheel studs is pressed into the wheel bearing, unless when you got yours everything was already together which makes it real easy to do. Except when your axle was rusted to the splines of the hub like mine was

Yes my wheel bearing was assembled (pressed in) already.
The old wheel bearing was rusted hell.

Cait, s.sypder, make sure to lube the Spline with high temp lube before installing it, also when replacing the brake pads it should be lubricated.
