I think one or more of my bearings are going bad. After the car has been sitting and i start it up and go i get a screech sound coming from outside the car around the wheels. It does it under 20MPH, and it's not a constant it is like a repeatitive sound. Kinda like one spoke of the wheel is scraping the brake at every pass, but not real loud. Someone please let me know if you have experienced this and how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the input. if anyone else has any input that would be great so i can fix the problem and fast.

Yeah, doesn't sound like a wheel bearing to me either. A wheel bearing would cause vibration whenever there is extra load or a load in general on it.

i would say brake pad also....on most pads there is a little metal thing that lightly scrapes the rotor when its worn down to let you know...i cant think of the name of it right now cuz im tired :) but look in that direction

When wheel bearings are on the way out, they make a humming noise in the form of a sine wave. I don't know if you have every heard the hum of a posi-trac rearend as a car goes around a turn, but it something similar to that. I makes my fillings hurt. hum-um-um-um-um-um.... :dsm:

One way to see if you have a bad wheel bearing is to jack up which have side of the car you think is making the noise. Then, grab the wheel (its off the groud at this point) and try to wiggle it around (top/bottom, side to side). If you have play you can take the wheel off and see if the spindle is moving around (Top to botton or side to side), and if there is play in that then you know its your wheel bearing. Its no big deal to replace, my brothers wheel bearing was bad on his car (91' Camry) and it made a clicking noise (I thought the CV joints were bad), but it turned out that it was the wheel bearing. At any rate good luck sounds like an easy fix.

Only thing that sucks about replacing them on a 2G is that the hub and bearing come as a single unit which means you are gonna drop at least $150 (conicelli price) on the part alone. Labor is easy. Just unbolt the caliper, remove the rotor, remove the big axle nut and unbolt the hub.

my wheel bearing is as gone as possible. its been bad for 15000 miles. its BAD.

i did the tire shake trick for shits and giggles but nothing moved, so thats no way to test for it.

not in the rear foo. ;)

I just replace a wheel bearing for the same noise. Jack up the vehicle and shake the wheel top to bottom and left to right if it loose odds are your bearing is toast.
