Ok this is a little odd: I was driving in my neighborhood and knew there was a stop sign ahead, so I put in the clutch, stuck it in nuetral, and then let out the clutch...beeing bored, i was just messin around and kinda touches the "gear walls" (if you wanna call em that) agasint 1st, 2nd, 3rd, then 4th..but 4th popped in..i was like WTF...so then wondering what was up i did the same thing after i left work. I was slowing down and when i got to about 20, it went straight into 4th gear..and i could just let it sit there..the RPMs didn't jump or go down, the car didn't do anything..i was confused.

Is this normal?

yep.
you can shift any manual tranny without the clutch if you have the right rpm at the right speed.
Accelerate to about 20 or 25 then let off of the gas and try to pull it into second really easy. Doesnt work on a hard acceleration mind you, but you can go up to 5th like that if you know your car. Works on the way down too. Its kinda the lazy man's shifting.

Good truck drivers shift this way all the time. You just have to have little to no load on the gears (coasting) and be at the right RPMs for that particular gear.

I started another thread with this question, but no one is hitting on it. Maybe you guys know.

on the NT 1G's
is the manual tranny the same on the SOHC motor as it is on the DOHC motor?

Well I have a 91 eclipse SOHC and a 92 talon DOHC. There is a stamp on top of the bellhousing with some odd number, and that matches on both. Then below that there is the MBxxxxx on the eclipse and the whatever whatever dodge part number on the talon.
that and they look absolutely identical, so I suspect they are the same. Just wondered if anyone had any first hand knowledge.
