What's this going on inside my glove box?

I bought my car about 3 weeks ago, '98 Talon TSi AWD and found this inside my glove box. I ran the numbers and it appears to be a 3rd generation Eclipse clock. It displays the word "code" some times when I try to mess with the stereo. Which the stereo appears factory but the car came with another stereo in the trunk which although different appears factory like as well.

I just want to get rid of this crap and go with a nice aftermarket stereo with the proper install kit, nice and clean. But I have to figure out what's been done here first and remove this... whatever it is.

Any idea what they have tied into here as for the wiring? Whatever this is it doesn't work and neither does the stereo. Tell the time by having to open the glove box? Kinda inconvenient if you ask me...

The item in the glove box.

I think somebody installed a 3rd gen stereo in your 2g and they put the display in the glovebox because it would not fit anywhere else. You should rip all that out and get a good aftermarket stereo if thats what you want. The stereo that was in your trunk looks like the factory 2g stereo that your car originally came with.

The one hooked up right now is out of a third gen which has no screen, the piece in the glove box is the screen on the third gen that displays the station time and input. So it's asking for a security code in order to be used because it's all technically the same radio

The one in the trunk is the original 2g radio

Oh, that would make a bit more sense. LOL

Ok, that's not nearly as complicated as I was expecting. Unless of course I find a mess of wires behind the 3rd gen stereo when I remove it.

Thanks for the help guys. I now know a little more as for what to expect when I take on the task of lining this issue out.
