First off, Are you planning to go turbo in the future? If you are, then I wouldn't suggest spending a whole lot of money on a header that won't work with a turbo. Otherwise, 4-2-1 headers are more effective at providing your car with gains in the low to mid RPM ranges while the 4-1 header gears that power towards the higher RPM range. I'm pretty sure it all has to do with how each style affects the velocity of the exhaust gasses (similar to the 'scavenging' effect spoken about with exaust size diameter). Ultimately, it depends on where you wanna see your gains and if your deciding to 1/4 mile race, track race or street race.

Below are a couple quotes from http://www.automotivehelper.com:

"if you're car is an auto i would for sure go with the 4-2-1 because the auto's are shit off the line, if it's a manual it depends on what you want it for. if you can get off the line good then i would go with the 4-1 but if you have trouble down low, go with the 4-2-1"

"your only talking about 3-6hp and 2-5ft/lbs torque. So it not really that big of a deal. Youll get more hp out of an exhaust or with an intake manifold. if i were you i would save up and and invest in a turbo kit, youll gaine more hp than you would with 2k in aftermarket bolt-ons.

Check this site out, it will be worth the visit

Keep in mind that if you go through E-bay to get the headers, you will probably not end up getting 4-2-1 headers (even if they listed them that way). I sent back a few sets and had to explain to the sellers (actually vendors) why they were 4-1's and not 4-2-1's.

Are you talking about the 4-2-1 'Chrome' or 'SS' headers on ebay for $30-$50?
what was their response? Did they just not know cars at all?.

I'm looking for 1/4time cause right now all i got is CAI and custom 2.5in catback and am running a 16.0 but im hoping to cut a 15.9or15.8 with more seat time.:talon:

Still depends though. Where do you need the gains? at takeoff or once you start hitting the upper-rpm range? Personally (on my 'clipse) I'd like a little more low-end torque, so I'd go with the 4-2-1. Ultimately, it's your car and make the mods as you see fit. :)

Just my .00002 ;D

Yup, though I couldn't tell you which companies in particular (it's been a while). I only spoke to one company (the rest was done in E-mail). I would say not knowing the english language at all was probably their first problem WTF . It was all downhill from there.

I ended up getting a set (4-1) for around $70-$80 (?) and that was just because I liked the look. Of course, I have since covered that over with heat wrap :p so it doesn't matter now.
