i plan on replaceing all gaskets / seals /cover of my car but first and formost id like to stop the oil leaks , there is a good amount of oil on the left side of the engine block ? what probably leaking ?

also i have oil residue all over my plug area , ive been told valve cover, but if it is my valve cover dose that mean i need to replace it ?

pull it off its pretty straightforeward.

check it over for holes/cracks that would leak. if theres none then thats one thing you can check off your list. if there are, then replace it you should be able to buy one on ebay/classifieds here for under $40

Front and rear main oil seals
Valve cover gasket
camshaft seals
Cam angle sensor seal
oil galley plug

which side of the engine you got the oil leak?? you need to be more specific on that.is it the engine front or back? (timing side or tranny side?)

left side. like the side side.

and theres something on the left side that looks like it connects to the valve cover also but i might be wrong.

to remove it , is it only the bolts on the top that hold it on?

im very much a newb and my car is running fine right now , i just dont wanna get to deep into something until i know enough .

Generally we refer to sides of a car by the Driver's Side or Passenger's Side. Left or Right could mean "left" referenced from the driver's seat in this case would be the timing belt side or "left" looking at the engine bay which would be the transmission side. If you use Driver and Passenger sides to describe it there is no room for error. Unless of course it's right hand drive. Then the driver sits on the right.

BTW, it's a DSM it's going to leak oil. Once you think you have all leaks fixed, another one pops up.

Here's a list of stuff that can leak:
CAS o-ring
Valve Cover Gasket
Valve cover half moon
Cam Seals
Oil filter housing
Oil pan
Front engine cover
Oil filter
Oil cooler
Turbo Drain Tube
Turbo oil supply
Dipstick tube
Dipstick tube o-ring
Oil cap
Power Steering pump
Power Steering Rack
Power Steering lines
Power Steering Cooler

I'm sure there are some I forgot to mention.

Wipe down the engine with some Gunk cleaner and a rag. Dont spray it with a pressure washer. Then when everything is nice and shinny, let the car heat up to operating temp, put a nice piece of something white underneath ( pizza box is good ) and sit down with a cold beer and watch it. This way you will know exactly where its coming from and that its oil 100%.

^^^^
Always call parts while sitting in the drivers seat :)

Dont worry, when you get every oil leak fixed, that power steering \ fuel \ brake lines \ coolant \ oil feed lines \ turbo seals ........ will start leaking. :) I wish you good luck. :)

If these cars did not require your attention 100% of the time, they would not be as interesting.
