I've put about 3-4k miles on my rebuilt transmission using parts from Jacks Transmissions and everything has been great. I was doing some pulls the other night, hit 4th, and it was stuck in 4th, I manged to get it out of 4th, and now was locked out of 3rd and 4th. I assumed I broke a shift fork.
Took the trans apart, no broken fork, no bent rail. Take apart the gear stack and notice that the synchro spring is no longer in the key.
I have no idea how this could happen, especially after having put a decent amount of miles on the transmission. I could see if it was improper installation it would have reared it's head much earlier than now.
I also noticed a bit of discoloration on the 4th gear side of the synchro keys. I'm not sure if I should be concerned with that or if it's just normal wear.
I'm going to order a new spring and hope that it was just a faulty spring, but any input is appreciated as I'm far from an expert.
