What size tranny cooler?

I read somewhere that a 6 tube cooler is about right.

Also that when using a 10 or 12 tube cooler the tranny sometimes didn't get warm enough to shift into OD.

I use the 4588 one. Haven't had any problems about being in OD, but I also haven't driven it in weather below 50 degrees yet. IPT said that was the commonly purchased size for DSMs, though. It's mounted right between the FMIC and AC core on the passenger side. Probably could mount it where the old SMIC used to be if you have room, though.

I am putting in place where my old SMIC was, i have the SSautochrome fmic, and its huge, blocks airflow a lot IMO. So i am putting it in a better place for cooling (on long trips i see the temps rise a bit which worries me of course!)

Just not sure what size, considering i live in Michigan and we get 0 degree temps here sometimes! I have never had any shifting issues in the past, so im sure it will be fine, but i just want some peace of mind.

this is my setup. This would be great for drag racing and road course.

I got STM's tranny cooler kit. It barely stuffed it in behind the bumper this way.

I wanted to be able to use a modified SMIC duct to force as much air as I could through it.

Does anyone have experience with picking up a trans cooler from a 1 ton or larger truck? I know some guys do this and I wondered if anyone had a suggestion for particularly good ones and what vehicles they came out of.
