i'm gonna be looking at a 1998 GSX with 80,000 miles, and i was wondering what kind of maintenance should have been done? what are things i should check for? i only know that the timing belt and water pump should have been done at 70k, but anything else i should expect to already be done? if the scheduled maintenance has not already been done, what do you think the average cost would be to have them done?

Well you got the timing belt and water pump. Check all other belts, check the compression on the motor, basic tune up would be in need (new plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, etc.) Would be wise to change all fluids. If auto, have that drained and the filter replaced. Check your crank for any play. Look at the frame of the car for any damage, any little rust spots that could get worse. Any signs of modification. That about covers it. Just look at the logical stuff. If I were you, ask to take it for the night before you purchase it and look it over very well.
