yeah it helps, but it also means there is more stress some where else, and after a while of heating up and cooling down it takes a toll (I guess), just keep an eye on the downpipe, and manifold, and if you get the chance just have an exhaust shop weld some tabs onto the exhaust and screw into the back of the block, that will help hold it all up.

i installed my forge manual boost controller tonight. its got me so confused. its crazy ### before i had it my 1st gear would boost max 6psi, 2nd gear 7psi, 3rd about 8, and i once got it up to 9psi in 5th. now that the boost controllers installed, i boost 8-8.5 psi throughout all of my gears. no more in 5th gear than in 1st. but i turn the boost controller up more, and it just stays the same. i ordered this boost controller:http://www.slowboyracing.com//more.php?id=2441& and installed it based on this diagram:http://www.slowboyracing.com/downloads/extras/BoostControllerCheat/SBR-controller-cheat.jpg. could anybody tell me why this is happening and most importantly why the boost isnt goin up anymore? oh and it is running fantastic at least for my standards. better than ever

Following that diagram won't work for the MBC that you have, you have a three port model. Looking at the unit you should have two side ports and one bottom port, connect boost reference to either of the side ports and the remaining side port should be connected to the wastegate actuator. The bottom port vents to atmosphere or if you are worried about that minor leak you can connect it to the turbo intake pipe after the MAF but before the turbo. Contact me if you need further help:

hey guys,
ive been searching and reading up alot on turboing my 420a. Ive seen alot people that have had big boost spikes and it ends up blowing there engines, why is this ? what is causeing the boost to spike so much for people? this is the only thing that scares me from turboing because my engine is almost at 150k miles and thats not somthing it will handle to well and this seems to happen to every other person who turbos, atleast it seems that way from what all ive read .. the topend end of the engine is getting all rebiult as for head, timming, exc but the bottom end will not be getting touched, atleast for another yr or 2 and i dont want to have to tear it down because it blew up. i planned on running 8psi. my compression is 180 across the board with only 1-3 psi diference b/w cylinders, it should be tones better after the rebiuld so my engine should be pretty solid for the miles thats on it. My main question is has anyone turboed there engine with that many miles on it ?
thanks for the help. sry for robbing the thread but i didnt want to open a new one for something as dumb as this:D

There's a few things that could cause it.

I had a bad wastegate that leaked like it was its job, if I stayed on it boost would just keep building.

There could be a leak in the vaccuum line between the turbo and wastegate

The vaccuum line could just blow off either the wastegate or turbo and then your wastegate won't open. If you hook everything up right, use clamps on the vaccuum line and test your wastegate, then you should be fine in preventing boost spiking or creeping

thanks guys:thumb: Soon as i finish the topend which should be done over christmas break im going to start ordering my parts:rocks:
