I'm getting 3" downpipe, and catback exhaust, whats the cheapest upgrade for a 3" o2 housing?

someone plzzzzz help me

is the downpipe you are getting a 3inch all the way thru. I know alot of them are 2.5 at the neck and open to 3 after the flex section. If that's the case just get you a 2.5 o2 housing.

i'd like to spend the least ammount of money possible, i dont want a a 400 dollar o2 housing, infact i would rather not pay anything over 200$. I dont know if i'm gonna be able to get a good one for under 200$, but if it were up to me i would just port my stock one and leave it like that, i'm just not sure that my new turboback system will be able to bolt up.

Why is this not up to you. If your downpipe is 2.5 (which a good amount are) at the neck then I would definately just port the stock one.

I personally run a SS 2.5" ext dump O2 housing from RnR. His products are very decently priced. I've also noticed Punishment racing sells O2 housings for damn cheap, but I have never dealt with them. I pretty much get all my stuff from RnR because I've had great success with them in the past.

agree. If you are going to run a 3" DP then you have to worry about boost creep. A 02 dump is my #1 choice. Plus they sound so cool :thumb:

ok ya this is my situation, with rnrs sale right now they charge NO extra money for a 3" turbo back exhaust, i mean thats pretty damn good, but the problem is i dont want to get an external dump for a couple reasons, 1. i live in cali and i'm sure the cops would love to pull me over when they hear my WOT dump tube. 2. i dont want to spend 300$ on an external dump tube. 3. I'm not sure i want something that would be that loud, if its only loud at WOT than i'm sure i could learn to love having every ####ing person around staring at my tractor.

I mean should i just go with the 3" cause it costs nothing extra? i mean is boost creep THAT big of an issue if i were to get 3" dp with high flo cat and 3" catback with stock o2 housing? would i have to get an external dump?

and also i'm kinda confused with o2 housings. If u get an external dump do u have to have an external wastegate? or does it just bolt right up to the turbo flapper for the internal wastegate? and i dont understand, how would boost creep be different if it just leaves the engine on an external dump instead of going through the tube and then get routed back to the o2 housing at the bottom?

and how do o2 eliminator downpipes work? they bolt right up to the exhaust side of the turbo, but what do u do about the dump tube? isnt there a port on the turbo where the flapper is that opens up? where does it go when u have an o2 eliminator dp?

sorry for all the questions, but i'm just so confused with o2 housings and exhaust side of turbos and downpipes right now, i need to just call up rnr and have one of their techies enlighten me :)

how about boost creep though? if i get 3" o2 eliminator dp will it have a lot?

and also how does it bolt on? i mean from the turbo exhaust outlet theres two tubes rigth? the normal outlet and then the flapper covering the part where the actuator opens. Does the downpipe have a tube that connects to the wastegate flapper? internally and externally?

seriously though it will creep a lot unless i get dump tube huh?

If you get the o2 elim. with a dump you MAY not have to worry about creep at all. If you have a 14b or larger then as long as that exhaust housing is ported well then creep won't happen. I don't see a bigger turbo in your profile so if you have the t25 you will be good with the stock o2 housing(i would still port while you are down there). But if money isn't an issue with you then, as everyone else said i would go with a 3inch dump. And yes it bolts right up but doesn't have anything to do with the wastegate flapper.

ok well then how bout an o2 eliminator with internal dump tube? will that creep?

the main thing i'm trying to look at here is what i can get for the best price and if it will creep or not. Buying a o2 eliminator from rnr is a better deal cause its only like 100-150$ more. So if i was to just get a normal turboback i would have to spend like 200$ on a decent, ported housing that will fit and won't make me creep.

I'm fine to go with the o2 elminator cause it will save me some money, but WILL IT CREEP WITH INTERNAL DUMP TUBE? i know if i get external dump tube it wont, but thats loud as fuxors and illegal.

I'm just trying to figure out the CHEAPEST and BEST PERFORMANCE exhaust to get. If there is something a little bit cheaper that is almost as good as rnr than let me know, but i just want to know what will work on my car for its best potential by freeing up the exhaust and to save as much money as possible.

evoIII o2 has a 2 1/2 outlet and flows fairly well. you can usually find them for $200 or under

No it won't creep with the internal dump. The three inch ones won't creep at all. The only thing you would have to do is make sure you port the turbo's exhaust housing. All of the o2 housing options you have WILL NOT creep.

ok so if i get this 3" o2 eliminator dp i will be all good in the hood?

its just a good idea to get my turbo ported, i'm tellin u right now that will never happen because i'm not that extreme with performance to take my turbo out to get it ported, if i ever upgrade my turbo i'll get the new one ported, but for now i'm 14b all the way.

seriously though will 3" o2 eliminator work for me with not ridiculous ammount of creep? and if it does creep a little an external dump will help a lot? i mean if its completely necessary i will get an external dump tube, i dont care about that noise that much infact i will probably love it cause i never really WOT, and when i do its always cause i want to prove something :)

and also someone mentioned o2 eliminator with cat elminator? that would be sweet cause when emission time comes around (1 year 9 months) it will be easier to just take my o2 eliminator/cat elminator pipe off and put my stock o2 housing and dp and everything back on.

Does rnr sell the cat eliminator pipe with the turboback sale that i'm getting it from?

Dude.

Just get a 2.5 turbo back with cat and port the hell out of your O2 housing. That will get you to were you want. If you go 3 inch you will have to port your turbo and you just said you dont want to do that.

2.5 with a good ported O2 will be fine, get that.

If you go bigger then there is more involved than you want.

if you are on the t25 i guarentee you that if you keep your car long enought you will upgrade the turbo for one of two reasons.. one- the t25 dies, mine went at 32k miles, yours could go anytime.. at that point the car is going to be down for a while anyway and why spend all that time and money to put in another t25? two- probably the more likely option- you realize how incredibly badly the t25 sucks.. if you havent yet, you will. if you ever ride in, see drive by or shit, even hear a car with a better turbo (which is just about any other turbo in existance) you will want to upgrade. the t25 has absolutely no redeeming quality.. its a peice of garbage :)

that being said, spend the little extra money up front and just go 3" all the way from rnr. the ENTIRE exhaust system, literally from the turbos exhaust housing back, can be replaces with mandrel bent, stainless steel 3" tubing for 725$. for what you are getting that price cannot be beat, period.. then 6 months from now when you realize every other car on the road is faster than you and you want to upgrade your turbo you wont have to mess with the exhaust again because you will never outgrow it. you arent going to creep on a t25 with that o2 eliminator dp, the only way it could be better is with an external dump, and you dont want that so thats the end of the discussion. now go to www.rnrracing.com, order that exhaust, and tell them i sent you so when i order mine in a couple weeks i get a discount :)

I DONT HAVE A T-25! I HAVE A 92 FUXORING GSX, WHICH HAS A 14BBBBBBBB ON IT, I WOULDNT CONTINUE THIS THREAD ON AND ON AND ON IF PEOPLE DIDNT KEEP CONTRADICTING EACH OTHER AND GIVE ME DIFFERENT ADVICE AND NOT ANSWER MY QUESTIONS PROPERLY!

This is all i want, the cheapest turbo back exhaust that wont creep. THATS IT!

if i go to rnr and get my 2.5" exhaust that wont creep and will connect to my stock o2 housing than great i'll get that, BUT like i stated and if u keep up with their sales, they are offering a 3" turbo back exhaust for no extra cost, in my opinion thats a good ass deal because for the .5" u always have to pay extra.

I dont understand what the deal is, people just argue and argue all day long about whats better 2.5" or 3" and u NEVER get a straight answer! people talk about their goals and how far they want to go with their car, LET ME WORRY ABOUT THAT. All i want is for my setup as of right now to be able to run with a free flowing exhaust without massive ammounts of boost creep. I mean if we can all come to some sort of agreement on which would be the best setup for me than lets just do that instead of every person giving me different advice as to what will creep and what will outflow this and that. (and i would just love to order what i need as soon as possible because from what i hear rnr messes up everything and takes 4months to ship it to u)

By the way, i appologize if i sound incredibly harsh, i know everything in here is trying to help me and i appreciate that a lot, i'm just new to my dsm (just bought 3 weeks ago) and i would like to learn whats best for it. Its just really frustrating when people trying to help u give u different advice and u dont know whats right and whats wrong. I guess that's the beauty of a free forum :). Normally if someone is wrong on this site though they get their ass handed to them. :D

So if i wanted to save the most money just get the 2.5" turbo-back and send my stock o2 housing to get the living hell ported out of it so it doesnt creep.

By the way someone said somewhere that rnr systems come with test pipes, is that true? if so tell me so i dont go do something stupid and pay 100$ for their highflo cats, i dont really care about emissions i got another year and half before i have to deal with them :)

hehe sorry, guess i should have taken a breath before my last post :) 14b is a good turbo, so disregard my pointless t25 bashing. their turboback should include the test pipe, the cat is an option to replace it.. check with them to be sure but it seems silly they would leave it out. if you really are planning on starying with your 14b and really dont want to get it ported the 2.5 will probably be your best bet, 3" all the way back may lead to some creeping from my research.. how badly it will do so i have no idea, and will probably depend on the rest of the car. if i were you id order the exhaust in 3" and have your turbo ported while waiting for it to come back, that way you have the room to grow if you do decide to upgrade, and you wont have to worry about creep so much either. i started out with a (very nicely) ported turbo from fp and have not yet upgraded my exhaust so creep has not been something ive had first hand experience with. i do have a feeling though that if you get anything less than 3" now you will regret it in the future, and popping out the turbo for a couple days and having a machine shop in your down open it up a bit isnt as bad as it seems. the options have all pretty much been laid out to you, its up to you to decide whats best. i say have your 14b ported now and go for the 3". you will be glad you did in the end. the reason you are getting a lot of different advise and opinions is because there are a lot of ways to go about doing this. the most immediate, and poorest performing solution is to go 2.5. not much creep if any, and you dont have to drop the turbo. but dont cry about it if we are all saying "i told you so" in a few months :p

..also.. why are you willing to have your o2 housing ported but not your turbo? by the time you have the o2 housing off you are basicly halfway done taking the turbo off anyway... i know you dont want us to make your decisions for you or whatever, i am just trying to save you even more frustration down the road when you are buying this stuff for the second time :)

whenever u take the turbo out don't u have to like unplug coolant lines and oil lines and isnt it really messy job? i have no idea i've never done any turbo work.

you do have to unbolt 2 oil and 2 coolant lines, definately messier than just removing the o2 housing, but certainly no reason not to do it. drain your oil and coolant first then just have a bucket under the car to catch everything that dumps out when you pull the coolant lines.. change your oil and filter and put in fresh coolant when you are done so you dont feel so bad about draining it :) its certainly more work than just unbolting the o2 housing, but its a couple extra hours in exchange for a ported turbo that you will have every time you drive your car from that point forward. plus, once you do it you will realize that its not that big of a deal and probably wont care too much if you have to do it again in the future. thats how it worked out for me anyway, i took my time with everything and probably spent 6 or 7 hours over a couple nights pulling my t25 out when it died, but now that ive done it once i could probably have it out again in an hour or so. on a 2g its remove the heat shield, remove the water lines, remove the coolant lines, unbolt the o2 housing and then unbolt it from the manifold. a bit scary for the first time but it will never seem that way again after you do it once :)

Uhm, not to steal or anything...

but I was just thinking, isn't there a way to simply increase the size of the wastegate? That would make it less restrictive and thus remove boost creep while not needing an external wastegate.

Am I in anyway close to it? or am I completely wrong?

*Edit* I also just read on Machv.com that replacing the stock 02 housing with a better free flowing one will help reduce creep boost:

"Replacing this piece with a better, more free-flowing unit can yield benefit in horsepower as well as the prevention of "boost creep" when using larger turbos and free-flowing exhaust systems." -Machv.com

So wouldn't having an 02 Eliminating DP be ideal?
