k guys i was shopping for parts, im getting a 1991 eclipse and the owner says its a 2.0 liter non turbo, wat engine code is that i know theres a couple
-4g63
-a420 or soemthing
which is it?

1g cars had 2 N/T motor choices.

1.8l SOHC 4-cyl

2.0l DOHC 4-cyl

To answer your question, the 2.0l in that car would be a 4g63.

there was no 420a in the earlier eclipses. so that would be the 4g63 n/t. still capable to achieve a 4g63 turbo status.


edit: by status i mean that all the engines are able to be swapped/transplanted into each other and establish the factor of 4g63t. internaly they have there differences as also in structural limits. but neerly the same in aspect.

Well the casting in the 4g63T block allowed for oil squirters in the oil galley to spray the bottom of the pistons, but in essence you are correct.

I'm assuming you are replacing the internals to 4g63T spec, and if this is so, you will be able to run with the other turbo 4g63 guys are doing. Your boost limit is all in the tuning.

if you do have the n/a 4g63, you might want to bother nick at www.straightlinespecialties.com , i believe i remember him mentioning that they planned to experiment with the n/a 4g63 because there are a lot around
