Ok I know this isn't a newb question because I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.

I bought a jdm engine for my 96 gsx a while back and I'm still not sure what engine it is. That however is not my question.

I have already bolted in the engine (sans tranny) and it works just fine, but I need to find out what tranny I have. Posted below is a pic of it, but I will type out the tranny numbers anyways.

W5M332UMGL
VC5613

I have done an extensive google search and I tried searching here and have still found nothing.

The reason I ask is because a local dsm-er suggested it was from some sort of awd suv in japan which would give a different final drive ratio. I'm not planning on using the tranny (going to sell it) so I want to make sure I don't give someone a tranny that will screw up their car -

Can you fellas help me out? google is to no avail

Thanks in advance :D

oh and btw the engine had yellow top injectors and a titanium colored valve cover (which leads me to think evoIII or galant VR4 rs) but the tranny is throwing me off.

From what I've read the JDM tranny's have a different drive ratio so they won't work in the USDM unless you also get the JDM rear end... I might be wrong, but I don't think so...

I'm in the same boat. I have a w5m332upge. I believe that you and I both have EVO 2 or 3 transmissions which have a 5.4 final drive and not the 4.9 we require. We need a JDM reference chart or vfaq on this very subject. Finding info is difficult. :dsm:

From what I've been told though only the Galant's have the yellow top injectors (which is what I have) so that makes me think it came from a Galant ...

buttttt the tranny makes me think otherwise because I've never seen that type of end tranny code.

Anyone else help us out ? please :D

I have the answer to all of your guys questions. You guys prolly have a trans out of an earlier Galant GSX (n/t awd). Thats what i have....I found out the hard way that the final gear ratio is different. But if you decide to use those transmissions they do have the longer first gear but you have get the rear end to match, which is a locked rear end but its only a 3bolt though......It took me 6 months to figure all this out so i could finally get my car back on the road which blew up 5 months afterwards. :talon:

Nope, my engine came with a 16g.

If it is a used engine, Just because it came with a 16g does not mean that was originally what the engine was equipped with. But your most likely right about it not being the n/a awd motor... Did you ask the people you bough the tranny from? Id hope they kknow what they are selling???
