hey i didn't take this picture so please give props to BLKbrd1988.... he asked the same question but he didn't get an answer that i am aware of... thanks dude

I have a 95' RS and I don't have that. Do you have an automatic cause it might be some cooler lines.

I need to know more about where it is. Is that the radiator fan at the bottom of the picture? It looks like a regulator of some sort, what's it connected to? A browse through the service manual didn't find it.

Hope this helps! (ive never seen that before, but there is somthing on the downpipe on the 420a that sticks out that way, im at work so i cant take a picture of it. there is a cap on it.

prolly immisions.. looks like a secondary air blower hose(is there a small electric fan at the end literally blowing fresh air into ur exhaust/egr ?? some opel ecotecs had that in the 90s...

i have no clue what it is or what it has in it. all i know is that the picture with captions is correct. i'm not from california and i dont' think my car ever has been but i got the picture from someone else with a gs i believe so i'm not the only one. i do know that it is a rubber tube and then it changes to a hard metal tube which leads into the downpipe. so maybe just something to do with any water that might get out but the air that comes into the box would have to go through the air filter before it gets to the tube and stuff.

My 95 GS is without this but I do have the cap on the downpipe your talking about.

my guess would be somethign that needs to be removed in the name of more power

could just be one of those stupid things to heat the air coming into ur engine for winter driving, which makes no sense since ur from AZ and wouldnt need that anyways

i think i'll just disconnect it and see if i can notice any difference. hopefully it will run. i think i will tho. :dsm:

ok cool. buttttttttt what is that supose to mean to me. LOL how does it work. and what should i do if i were to replace my downpipe or get a cold air intake??? and why is mine the only one that seems to have it. huh ok. :dsm:

Its the air recirculation unit that they put in our cars in the 95.

Its supposed to be removed and blocked off when you do the recall on your car.

It routes back into your down pipe correct?

All early 1995 California 420a cars have this. They also have a snorkel coming off the downpipe for the EGR system. Early 1995 neons with the same motor have 2 crankcase ventilation hoses coming off the front of the block for the same reason.

The early 95's are partially OBD2 compliant, but not completely, so they have weird workarounds like this.
In October?ish 1995, all 420a's became fully obd2 compliant.

Remove it and block it off
Or you could just take it to the dealership and have THEM remove it PROPERLY and plug it off at NO charge. This component IS the secondary air injection system. It's only found on CERTAIN 95 NT's with Manual Transmissions only. The recall calls for the removal and blocking off of these components. Not only that but they also reprogram the PCM/ECU with new software. This new software no longer tells the pcm to look for this component.

You COULD remove it yourself but then the dealership no longer is responsible for touching the car at no charge because you messed with it first. The OTHER problem with you removing it is that you don't have the $6,000 dealer scan tool and internet access to the software required to properly reprogram the PCM. So your check engine light will come on and you'll have to stare at it for the rest of the car's life. THEN on top of that, you won't know when you actually have a real problem with the car. So... fix it right, the first time and quit hacking up an otherwise properly working vehicle.

Well yeah, you COULD do it that way, if you wanted to take the easy way out. :D

i have it its used to give the engine more airr on start up

i put a cai and left it disconnected all youll notice is at start up it might turn on and shut down on you but besides that your car will run fine

When I put my CAI on I just plugged it and its running fine. and by the way thanks for getting an answer for me i forgot about that post. :thumb:
