What is the best engine build up for under 10K?

Heres what comes to mind for me.

GM, 302, 327, 350, 396, 400, 426, 502, 527 <--(last one would cost about 10k)
toyota 1JZ 2JZ 7M-GTE (MR2 turbo engine, forgot the code)
Mitsu 4G63, 4G64, 6G72
Nissan SR20, RB25, RB26 VG30DETT
Mazda 13b, (2, 3 or 4 rotor)


I dont look much farther than these manufactures.

ford 302 :notgood: Chevrolet 302 :thumb: JUST MY opinion. However it's extreamly rare so you would likely have to build one from a 327 or 350.

How about the LT5 that it was modeled after? Other than trying to stay under $10k I suppose.

Mmmm... ls7. Toss a supercharger on there and you're gold. Right around $10k

Used LT5s out of junk yard cars are going for over 10K


And its a very rare motor, and parts are hard to find....

it begins and ends with the chevy 350... period.
nothing is cheaper to build and easier to find. i think they sell stroker kits at walmart now..ROFL

I don't know what chevy 302 you're talking about. If you're comparing cars from the '80's or '90's ok, but the 302 dz motor in the 69 z28 were the shit, not piece of shit.

Your statement on thread title is wrong. He wants to know what the best motor is to build.Under 10g(10g isnt a motor either).

Also no where did i say it needs 800hp to be fast. Lets get real here joey you cant come into a race with 300hp tsi against a 500hp tsi and expect to win. I can go fast with a long board also. Im kind of disappointed in you. Usually your on topic all the time you just really steered out of your way to try and lower me with your post. :toobad:

I think for drivability and reliability, my pick would be the 5.9 cummins. Use the old late 80's motor with the big heavey internals and just start adding fuel and boost until it scares you or until you can't find a trany and diff that will hold.

That is a good list of engines, although I like to add in the 2JZ in there as well. It is the most balanced motor I know of overall. And I plan to find a Supra in the future, those cars are amazing hands down. :D :thumb:
 
Ok i dont mean to really end this but. I picked up a super street mag today. The best motor is the 350. Turbo or twin turbo'd. They said after numerious reviews its the cheapest and best to get the most power out of. DAMN YOU
 
2jz stock will support 800hp... fuel and a big turbo should work just fine! Show me any domestic v8 that supports 800hp stock...I'm not sure it exsists maybe the new z06 motor but thats about it. But if we are talking about built V8s I would definately want a dart block pretty much indestructable. My buddy has one in his old 5.0 and its turbo its pretty dirty!

That may be true but how much is it gonna cost you to make that 800hp? For the money spent on bolt-on parts for the stock short block supra you could build a 1,000hp sbc.
