Hey everyone,

working on my car today, my father accidentally hit the radiator like thing in front of the actual radiator. He tells me it's connected to the a/c system, and that i need to replace it asap before the freon dries up or whatever.

Anyway, i was wondering what is the popular or technical name for this piece. so that i can search for it online and in junkyards, and maybe someone will know what i'm talking about.

- Also, does anyone know where i can find 1997+ front bumper, preferrably white? from a vendor or another person. I need to replace my bumper since it's cracked

thanks for any help

- Jose

It's called an a/c condensor. You can't fix it without the proper equipment to evacuate and recharge the a/c system.

Did it make a hissing sound when he hit it? Your freon or r 12 or whatever is in there and under pressure, if you punctured it it would leak out. If you didn't hear a hissing sound get your AC system tested, if it's still holding good it's probably ok.

bullshit
edit- you need a recharge set thats all
take a socket and loosen one of the lines to the ac system...let it pure, remove radiator in one piece....and remove condenser....it literally takes 30 minutes to purge, remove, install and charge

my father drilled a hole while installing hood pins into the condensor

r12 is expensive too, like $45 a pound.
Yes, R12 is very expensive. That's because they don't make it anymore, as it's one of those things that eats away at the ozone layer. And don't put that other shit in it. I can't think of the name right now for some reason, but it's the stuff besides R12 and R134a. It contains propane and methane, making it highly highly explosive.

Yes it did make a hissing sound.. so i guess the freon or R12 leaked.. so this also means the condensor is ruptured.. is there anyway to have that fixed? or do i have to replace it then have the whole A/C system recharged? let me know..

Yes, replace it then have it retrofitted with R134a.

Where ever you have it done may include the retrofit kit with the price for the recharge, but you can buy one from Napa or some other parts store.
