what is a 6 bolt?

It describes the number of bolts that the flywheel uses to bolt to the crank. The 90 through early 92 years used this 6-bolt configuration which also used larger rods. In late 92 till 99 when the last one was made, they had 7-bolt engines. These used 7-bolts to bolt the flywheel to the crank and had smaller rods. The static compression of the pistons changed in 95 to 8.5:1 instead of the 7.8:1 in the 90-94 years.

he did a good job on clarifiing but he left out one important thing, if you like to worry about dumb sh!t alot.

the 7bolts can "crankwalk" thats where the thrust bearing prematuraly wears and the crank starts to move outa the engine.

and the 6bolts don't do it, well i bet one or two have since i have heard of all kind of motors doing it, but they don't have a high risk for it like the 7bolts.

Make it 3. I have walked a 7-bolt 2G and a 6-bolt 1G block.
