ok, i am gettin either a dual or triple gauge pod and i am positive that i want a boost gauge, but what other gauge/s should i get?? i was thinking either oil temperature, engine temperature, exhaust temperature, or maybe even an air fuel ratio gauge<~~~~but would this gauge serve any purpose on a very lightly modded GST???

I know thats who you were directing your post to. I was just interjecting thats all. I tend to go against the masses myself.

Heres my opinion about the A/F gauges. They are pretty much useless with the stock O2 sensor, but when combined with a wideband O2 sensor they are functional and they are a great tuning tool!

The a/f gauge is NOT useless. In fact, a lot of race cars (including NA motors) use autometer a/f gauges. I haven't seen anyone actually backup why it' so "useless." Till then, quit talkin out of your asses.

I would put money that those race cars aren't using stock 10 year old O2 sensors, im sure they use wideband O2. :dsm:

BOOST

EGT

A/F

Beside the boost gauge, I would have to say that every temp gauge avaliable is good to have along with the oil pressure. Keeping a watchful eye on your investment is a good idea.:thumb:

Maybe alittle overboard for a mostly stock gst, but if you are going any bigger in the snail dept. then you would want these gauges.

Everyone is saying that the A/F gauge is no good, but isn't it very useful when you are trying to tune with the SAFC???? The whole reason i haven't touched my AFC is because everyone says i need an A/F gauge.

I have used my EGT to tune with the S-AFC II. It works great. I know it is not the gospel but it does do its job. Hell, I tune with it all the time. The A/F gauge will not be accurate enough. Soon enough the cable will be here for my pocketlogger and I will help ya tune if ya need it. Patrick also has one and is pretty handy with it, or so his writeups seem.

The DSM O2 sensor isn't a tuning piece, outside a very broad range:

http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-O2andEGT.htm

Which is part of why most A/F gauges are of little use. Having them re-calibrated will reduce the amount of hunting, but you're still up against the basic truth of O2 sensors, which is that they just aren't very accurate. They don't have to be. Their information is only part of the basis on which the ECU makes decisions about fuel settings.
