I have a 95 Talon TSI AWD. It's a 5 speed swap and I used a trans from a 96 GSX. Having a problem finding the correct passenger side axle. A 91 GSX axle has the right splines but is about 3 inches too short. The 95 talon axle from the car parts store is about a foot too long. What do I need to fit this? 96 GSX axle? I thought the 95 and 96 were the same?

the axle that is way too long is from a front wheel drive TSI. the parts store sold you the wrong part (SHOCK,HORROR) return it and emphasize the fact that you need one for an AWD car. i usually just tell parts stores its an eclipse, their systems seem to handle eclipses better then talons.

The same happened to me, i bought one from a parts store, it was really long, and when i told them it wasnt the right one they double checked the system, and gave me the short one.

even I told them it was for an "AWD ECLIPSE" they gave me a fwd axle haha.

What i do is go to the part stores website and look up the part numbers myself before i go in. About 50 percent of the time they will grab the wrong part if i don't bring the number in with me. We have some really bad parts stores around here. The best part is when i take the part number in and they ask "what is it for" i kindly look at them and say, it doesn't matter, just give me that part.

Yup, totally agree. I did some research through Rock Auto cause they usually have some good details about length and spline etc. Their system for the talon and eclipse pulled the same part numbers. So I called the Pep Boys I'm dealing with and they have a speed shop guy in there! I talked to him and he was really on the ball about everything. He crossed the numbers I got off Rockauto and ordered me one for tomorrow. So just gotta wait and see.

I got the axle today it it's good. There is a 1.100 inch difference between the passenger side 1G and 2G AWD's. The 2G is longer 25 9/32 compressed length. 1G is 24 1/4 Splines are the same.

I guess we are at the point where we need to use Mitsubishi applications instead of Talon in the parts store cause the info in their system is very limited for the Eagles.

Oh well, I got the axle and back on the road.
