montreal,
Since i'm new with DSM, I don't really know those engine. I just bought a 95 Talon tsi AWD and the engine is doing a knocking sound. If I rev it a bit (2500rpm) the sound does NOT stop as many post I read. The sound is just faster. I though it maybe was a valve but the compression is 165 150 165 150. I also found on the windshield a oil change "vignette" (dont know in english). On it it show 162000km and the car is 180000km. Could no oil change during that time could have cause this problem: carbon or valve lifter to go bad? Im so happy to have a new car but I dont want to nmake it worst or blow the engine.

WHAT COULD IT BE PLEASE!?!

thanks

As you seem to want to do whatever research is required to repair your motor properly, I would suggest finding a copy of the service manual (or you can get the DSM manual CD which has the manual on it) and read through the overhaul procedure. It discusses in detail the steps you should go through in disassembling/reassembling the bottom end.

If I were you, I would take the crankshaft and have it inspected at a machine shop, ask them if it can be polished (not ground) and reused. If so, have it polished, and reinstall with a new set of main and connecting rod bearings. That you say the crankshaft is scratched up, I have doubts that you'll be able to salvage it (but you never know). You may need to get another one.

I would do this at a minimum; also remove the balance shafts completely while you're at it.

Good advice Kalla. I was already planning on finding a Chilton manual before doing the job... maybe at NAPA.

Do you have any idea where to find DSM manual CD.

That would be exactly what im looking for.

If someone has it could you be generous and help a DSMers in need and send it to me via internet.

Thanks

By the way, I read a lot on stroker motor but just to be sure, It is not possible to only put a 4g64 crank in the car without rods and pistons isn't it?

Not enough money to rebuild the complete engine stroker :(

No, you can't use factory pistons on a stroker build, and even if they fit, I wouldn't reccommend taking the cheap way out on a build like that. Doing things right the first time will save you in the long run.

Ok just because I taugh you could run about up to 400-500 hp with stock internals.

Anyway, I'm going to repair the crank first and if I like those car (never drove a DSM and I own one  ), I might rebuild one stroker. Who knows!!!
