What cable is this? car wont start with it off

I was in the middle of wiring up my new boost gauge (old one got stolen )
I decided to tap into my stereos power when I noticed a plug that had a wire looped back into itself.

I had never seen these cables before since it was buried in the mess of wires

So I unplugged the LOOP wire and everything seemed fine, but then the car wouldn't start! it wouldnt even turn over.

I placed that wire back and car fired right up, now I'm clueless on what the heck this wire was for?

maybe has something to do with the ASD/MFI hmmm in the same location as the ecm right and both the ASD/MFI but im not sure.. here is a site that has a bunch of wiring diagrams for dsm's http://codsm.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3472

Did that car used to be an automatic, by chance? Looks like that wire could be bypassing the park/neutral switch...

car has always been a 5spd as far as I know altho I am the 2nd owner

Ok, I'll see if I can get around to pulling the console out of my 99 GSX today to see if I have that same connector.

It goes to a relay either the fuel pump relay or another one mfi there should be two in back behind the radio

It looks like a harness connector for either the MFI relay, Fuel Pump relay or the Starter relay.
The presence/absence of the others along with the car's behavior might tell you which one.

What does the car do when you turn the key?
Does the engine turn over? -No, then it's the starter relay.
Does the fuel pump kick on? -No, then it's the fuel pump relay.

the car never turned over, nothing happened.
so if its a starter relay, why isnt it plugged in? I wounder what the owner before me was doing, maybe a kill switch?

btw you have the perfect eclipse, Spyder AWD! I had to pick between a GS spyder or a GSX I owned both until my buddy bought my spyder and then crashed it

Someone probably had a relay go bad and bypassed it.

Btw, I do have a 97 awd spyder, but I was actually gonna check my 99 gsx coupe since the spyder doesn't have an interior atm.

That's your starter relay connector, Some one took off the relay and by pass it.

Just put a new Starter relay and you will be OK..

Wondering,,,, Do you have any other loose connectors at the engine bay? (transmission area).


I might say that it used to have an automatic harness.

I have still to be able to locate a starter relay for my car, anyone got an extra one laying around? Ill buy it! I also posted in the classifieds.
