I have arp head studs. but the head lifts under high boost and pushes coolant. Is there a better stud that doesnt strech? Like the L19? do they make that for a DSM? Search didnt help me :(

thanks

L19s are the best headsutds for DSMs PERIOD

Ask any of the high horsepower guys and they'll tell you L19's with Felpro MLS is the winning Combo..

L19's have been proven for 50+psi

Standard ARP Headstuds have been known to lift at 35psi

Thanks for the replies and the link!! That felpro 1153-1 is spendy!!!

I'm not sure what is going on or how much boost you are running but I would suggest that the head isn't lifting because of the amount of boost that you are running. Much more likely is that you have a damaged headgasket or knock is lifting your head. What are your ARPs torqued to?

I dont know what they are tq'd at. they were on the car when I got it. I assume I would have to take the cams off to get to the studs to check/re tq them. so If i go through all that hassle Id just as well replace them so I know that I put them in and that they havent been used and re used etc ya know? If I am gonna replace them Id like to go with the L19's!! get a new HG and while the heads off get it checked out as well! I have only owned a dsm for a couple months now so Im still trying to learn about them and what works and doesnt.

the only problem with that is if you go with a metal head gasket you're gonna have to make sure the head and block are both smooth so it'll seal and that'll require a trip to the machine shop which will cause you to take the car off the road for awhile.

I will try to re tq them first. I wasnt sure if it could be done without taking the cams off or not? Where can I find the TQ specs for the ARP's on this motor? And while Im asking.. (because I am still new to DSM's) Where can I find the sequence? Or any vital info for these at that matter? just vfaq?
