What are the benefits of deleting the EGR?

Only things are a cleaner intake manifold, less of a chance of a vacuum/boost leak and a little bit less clutter in the engine bay. Its can also trip your CEL and slightly decrease gas mileage. I did it to my car anyways.

Clutter? don't see how anything that cant be seen unless looking for it would be clutter. but yeah what he said basically. and keep intake temps down, another thing that im not sure if a 2g has is the coolant lines that go to the throttle body. you can remove those and get cooler intake temps also.

Because coolant is hot and when its next to your throttle body it will increase your intake temps.
was that a serious question?

Yes I said clutter. A ton of vacuum lines, a solenoid and the EGR valve itself. Engine bay space on a 2g is hard to come by... Removing the coolant lines on the TB doesn't do shit for cooler intake temps.:banghead: You want a cooler intake temp get a heat barrier (phenolic spacer) gasket.

by removing coolant lines from throttle body you will get cooler intake temps ????
how is that possible ??

Without 200* coolant running through the throttle body you can decrease intake temps. But to see serious benefits from it you would need to run a heat barrier intake manifold gasket as everything in that area gets heatsoaked anyways.

As for benefits of removing the EGR? Slightly more power, cleaner intake manifold, but most importantly it's one less thing to break. And complete emissions delete does help clean up the engine bay since you can rid the car of all those black boxes on the firewall and little rubber hoses coming from the throttle body. But for those who live in the Country of California, you might have issues passing visual emissions inspection with the EGR missing. I suggest a block off plate that keeps the EGR in place, just non-functional.

like they both said your going to have a cleaner intake manifold but beside that there isn't much reason to remove the EGR it only reduce the weight of your car by maybe 1/2 a pound and adds absolutely no horsepower. On the other side if you do keep the EGR its a lot easier to pass smog and your going to have lower combustion temperatures

There is basically no benefit to removing it short of having a cleaner intake and less chance for leaks (as Jimmy said). It's not open in any performance situations, you'll throw a CEL, it can cause you to fail emissions testing, and you may lose a little gas mileage. It is one less thing to worry about though, as it can be a pain if it gets stuck open. Aren't you in Communist California, they'd probably crush your car or some nonsense for removing it...

I have mine removed, only because my Cyclone manifold has no setup for it. I have it's functions and the CEL turned off in my ECU so it poses no problem, plus we don't test emissions here. I'd say leave it alone unless you upgrade to a flashable ECU and can disable the CEL (98/99), or just turn it off all together (Evo 8 ECU).

As for the coolant lines to the TB; they're for the FIAV. If you want cold-start issues, and a shitty idle until the car warms up feel free to remove them. Some people have more trouble with it than others, but bluntly it's there for a reason. Its effect on intake temps is minor, and IMO not worth the hassle unless it's a drag car that needs every last drop of power.
