Weird idle? Anyone had this issue?

First time ever. Went to the mall and it sat for maybe 30 minutes in a parking garage. Fired it up and it was idleing at 500 and sounded like misfires. Gave it a little gas and it cleared up and idled normal and drove fine all the way home where it idled fine again. Popped the hood and it sounded normal. Some ticking coming from the head but I assume lifter tick.

No crazy mods yet or engine management, just bolt ons and intake. Anyone had this problem and it lead to something else? This is my DD so I'm big on preventative maintenance as much as possible.

All help is appreciated! :)

Pull the plugs an look at them, wires, bad maff connection, fuel filter. Just some ideas although I'm sure these you have thought of just keep checking the forms to see if anyone else has had similar issues. Good luck. I would start with the plugs.

Sounds to be like a minor misfire of sorts. Like Hondo said, check all the little stuff first to verify if it is or isn't something that simple, even if you are good on your routine maintenance. I know it's excessive, but when my car is running, I change oil, plugs, and plug wires every other month just to keep things in peak shape.

Wow, every other month, I bet some of the members here would love your handmedowns.:)

LOL I blame it on OCD and loving my car. Always use Royal Purple oil, NGK BPR6ES plugs, and NGK or Bosch wires. I'm not a fan of letting my car run poorly. I don't even like seeing more than like a soda can or two sitting in it. Trunk is always neatly organized, even now with the engine still sitting on the stand. Wash it every other weekend. Retarded OCD :D

I go through plugs like that too at 30+ psi. You want my old ones?

Glad to see I'm not the only one who does excessive maintenance ;)

Mine just did something like that... Granted the wiring on mine has been pretty wonky lately, and my coilpack is split (don't even ask me how), my third cylinder plug wire was melted at the connection... I would check there first.

I had the same problem with mine, I traced it down to a boost leak and a bad maf sensor that mad the idle surge. its always good to go through and check everything. And im assuming your car is newer then 96' so you have the advantage of hooking a scan tool up to it to actually check and see if you have bad sensors/timming etc. and i agree, i change my plugs and wires routinely.

Well after some experimenting, it only has the weird start up idle if I rev it a little bit before I turn the car off. the day this started I was at the mall and under a parking garage so naturally I had to give it a little gas to flex the full 3" and megan CF muffler ;D

Anytime I pull up backwards in the driveway and give it a little to hear it bounce off the garage, the next start is the same way. anytime i dont rev before turning it off - no problems. could this be exhaust related? i know my ole t25 is going out cause its whining but its only a matter of days before the e316g is in the car so im leaving it alone.

and i too replace my plugs/wires very often. i change my plugs every week on my off day. i love giving some tlc to my car and for 10$ its not a big deal. i love knowing there is fresh shiny new plugs sparking my baby at WOT - PLUS... its something to do when your car has zero problems and holds 20 lbs boost w/ a proper BLT. I just love working on the car and maintaining it. i also change the oil every 2000-2500 miles. for 36 bucks you just cant beat a happy car and something to do on your day off.

plug wires, not so much LOL. i only run NGK and 50$ is pretty steep every week D: i dont think this problem is plug wires cause these fresh ngks have about 3500 miles on em.

i do appreciate the responses. i did not think to check the fuel filter but i will do that first thing after the car is done cooling off. plugs/wires/oil/coil pack all seem to be in 100% condition. just kinda weird how this only happens when i shut the car off right after revving it a LITTLE bit - not some fast n furious shit LOL. could there be leftover fuel?
