k guys my water pump is bad..is it an easy fix or should i take it to my mechanic? is the water pump on gst's hooked to the timing belt or is it hooked to some other belt..if it's hooked to the timing belt i'll for sure take it to my mechanic ,but if it's not i'll do it my self..thanks in advanced

Yes, as stated above, the timing belt will have to come off to replace the water pump. If your taking all that apart, you should consider doing something with your oil pump as well, I would, I like a little bit of preventative maitenence, especially since youll have acess to it. You might want to also consider replacing your timing belt too.

Dont just do the pump's <oil and water> make sure when you get the belt to get the tensioners all of them especially the auto tensioner, I have had this experience and am still dealing with it.

If you take it to a mechanic who knows what he is doing it shouldn't take him a full day to do it. I can replace timing belt and components, and replace waterpump in just under 3 hours. As long as they have a sense of the car and how to do it, there shouldn't be a problem doing it in one day. I would suggest getting all the parts yourself and taking them to him. Will save you on the mark-up as well. SBR has a great 2g timing belt kit and you can get a OEM waterpump from them as well.

you wanna drive that far on a bad pump and take the "chance" of warping or blowing stuff that is your choise i personally wouldnt even drive the car i would tow it to a shop but that is me. Make sure you have everything before you take it though or you will be waiting atleast a week to get it back.

i just finnish the same job you are talking about back in november on my friends talon. if you do it yourself it will probly take you most of the day maybe 2 days if you are not real familar with 4G63. i would definately replace the timing belt and all of the tensioners as well as the rest of the belt since they all have to come off. if you drive the car with a bad water pump you run the risk of overheating it . make sure it stays full of antifreze because im sure your car is leaking out of the pump.

My advice for you is to make sure you use a water pump that has a metal impeller. A lot of aftermarket water pumps use a plastic impeller that doesnt like to hold up. You dont have to get a good one at the dealer either, you can get quality parts from the local parts store.
