I need some help as to every single part I'd need from a GSX donor body to swap over to my GS-T to make it AWD. I hear this swap is becoming more and more common since there is no custom work / fabrication needed. If you can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. (I'm also not sure as to whether or not this thread belongs here or drivetrain, so sorry. :D) Thanks.

There is no custom work done but you do need to weld on the exhaust hangers and cut a couple holes into the sheetmetal above the rear subframe to remove the fwd bolts that hold on the subframe and install the longer awd ones. Its also a bit more involved than just throwing everything on there. I will get a cople links to this swap in a sec but here is some of the stuff you need.

-AWD tranny
- t-case
-awd springs
-AWD rear struts
-AWD gas tank
-AWD rear SUBFRAME
-Driveshaft
-All four awd axles
-The intermediate shaft between the tranny and the driver side axle
-awd turboback
-awd flywheel
-AWD fuel pump assembly

We did it to my friends car and it took quite a bit of time to get it all complete and that was working on it quite frequently. If you are going to do this is your garage I would highly recomend against it as its a bit much of a project to do on your floor with handjacks. If you do decide to continue with it, good luck I am trying to find a gsx to swap my engine into but if I can't find one for the right price then I will have to do this as a last resort.

Awesome man. Thanks alot.

I'm attending Wyotech right now and plan on doing this in shop as a project. :thumb:

Good luck with the project man. Take photos and post them here. A lot of people will tell you to just buy an AWD, but I say go ahead and do it. I love my car, and I wouldn't give it up for the world.

Yup, I was ready to say just buy an AWD. If you have good mechanical knowledge, the proper tools, and parts. I would say go right ahead, though it will be easier to get an AWD. :D

Stay boostin

Yeah man it would just be a lot easier to buy an AWD and just drop you GST motor into it if you want to keep your motor, than to convert your GST to AWD. But thats just my opinion. Road Race Engineering did the conversion once and vowed never to do it again, and those guys are DSM pro's.

Also I just graduated WyoTech in Pennsylvania, and if your in Chassis Fab you most likely will not have time to do the conversion, unless your already an expert welder. I was a red shirt and it took me 5 weeks the first phase of chassis fab to finish my comps. Second phase you have more time but still not enough, you only have about 3 and a half weeks after lectuers, a guy in my class bought all my GSX parts off my wreck to do the conversion, once he realalized that he only had week 5 and 6 to finish he gave up and just bought an AWD and transplanted his motor which took 2 days compaired to the 2 weeks he blew. Also he had like 6 DSM guys helping him and he didn't finish. My instructor put it best when he said most project vehicles drive into the shop and are towed away. Only 3 project cars were completed in 12 weeks total out of 11 cars that were in the shop. Just giving you some food for thought.
