I want to flush mount my 1" tweeters in my door panels as close to the mid-driver as possible. Have any of you done this? Where? Pics, if possible. Thanks.

Yeah, I looked at the mirror panel as an option, but it isn't quite wide enough or deep enough. I guess I'm just going to soundstage-test them and try and knock a hole wherever they sound the best. Thanks. :thumb:

here is where i mounted mine, and IN MY OPINION, the staging sounded pretty good right there. it actually sounded the best right down by the woofer obviously (but only if you were sitting w/ your legs up on the seat) once your legs are in a normal position, this sounded the best to me. it got the highs up above your legs without interferance.

same place I put mine , works great

Thats were the tweeters are in my dads truck (stock system, '03 toyota tacoma) and it sounds nice.

Sorry, guys. I forgot to mention that I'm a 2g. Thanks for the pics, though. My door panels have no flat parts. It's all rounded.....EVERYWHERE.

I think you just answered your own question. Can't flush mount.. surface mount on the mirror triangle. If the tweets come with angled surface mount bases... even better, point them towards you.

you get the Idea though , basicly look for any place where you would get great imaging, just don't put it at ear level , it gets anoying

Well, I took your suggestions to heart and just mounted them where they sounded the best. It turned out very well. You would be suprised how easy it is to hack up your door panels. I was expecting blood, or something. :D The passenger's leg will only block the tweet if he/she is sitting in one of the two closest-to-the-dash settings. It's my car, so the passenger will have to sit where I tell them. :thumb: :dsm: The next step is putting the same kind of separates in the rear. I don't even know where to begin on that one.

No need to go that fancy on the rear. Rears are for fill only anyway... plain coaxials would do just fine.

I agree, just get a good set of CoAxials for the rear and you'll be happy. I think Polk makes a decent set of coaxials, should match your front Polk/Momo's pretty good!

Also, glad to hear the install went easy. now go enjoy it!

Even cheap coaxials from the mainstream brands will do just fine. It's just fill. No need for recording studio reference speaker set up.

Mine is very similar to NerfHerder's setup. My audio place suggested that would be the best place since I have the stock dash speakers still in. Sounds good in that location too I might add.

i wanna see pics of the Drivers side door!

pass is easy, drivers a pain!

ncie set of comps

The driver door was actually easier because I did it second. No more learning curve. The hole-saw made it easy to cut holes and a fishtape was used to route the speaker wires through the door wire-accordian. I can take a pic of it if you want, but it looks the same and I have to wait for my batteries to recharge.

So I only need coaxs for the rear, huh? That sucks. I bought the two sets together. It"s really funny, too, that I found out the front mid-drivers were Quart QM160TE models. There are no Quart tweets in the car, but the mid-drivers were there. I couldn't find any info on how good they were, so I took them out. The Polks sound comparable enough to where I can't tell the difference. The Quart crossover looked kinda cheesy, as well. It's just a black tube about as large as a lipstick case. Previous owner was just using the stock Infinity tweets on the dash paired with them.

After the rears, I have to install two 10" Polk Momo woofers. I'm dreading that......big time.

Yes, PLEASe take a pic of the left side.

i know with a comp set your supposed to keep the tweet/woof no more than like 10 inches from eachother, but how bad is it to install the Tweet in the stock location, with the imaging wouldnt it smooth out?

Get a Decent set of speakers for the rear, you still have passengers, get some decent 6x9s and set the low/mid range on them and fade to the front.

hey man,
im the same way cept i never visit dsmtalk.

i was thinking about there, but if you place there, your getting close to the stock location on the dash.

plus i already used that spot. LoL

Actually rule of thumb used to be within 6 inches or more than 18.
Most folks nowadays put them where they sound best imaging wise and blank the rules.

I only used the mirror patch (on other folks cars) for 2 reasons:
It prevents you from having to sell the speakers with the car, and if you have ever priced out the tweeters by themselves... well usually its 40%-60% of the cost of a whole comp set.
It places the tweeters high for those who are not interested in imaging as much as staging.

Since you have the MB QUARTS left over (or if you have another set of 6" components) you could fabricate a plate to fit the factory 6x9 rear location and flush the tweeter in the same plate next to it. that is assuming the speakers you are going to use are not too deep for that location. If you are going 6x9 coax you really should not need another tweet as you want to keep the imaging upfront, and not have an instrument or singer (particularly females) "chasing you" down the road.

I'm glad to see that you are pleased with your upgrade. You will never be happy with a poor quality (or factory) system again!

As regards your 10"s I would personally reccommend pass rear corner as that seemed to be a "sweet" spot in my talon. You'll probably end up Mdf'ing and glassing an encosure for that area.
Again best of luck and congratulations.

I have another set of MM6s that are going to go in the rear. I have only used fiberglass once before when I was in highschool, but that custom tweeter pod write-up makes me want to try and make a custom enclosure for the woofers. I might even just use one of the woofers. I listen to mainly metal, so I don't need a lot of deep-deep bass. Thanks for the write-up and the advice. It has me planning. One thing at a time, though. I'm slow.
