walbro 255 o ring

Hey guys I was installing my walbro255 lph pump today and when i pulled the stock pump out there was an oring at the very top of the metal fuel tube and not around the plastic spacer as shown on vfaq. I reinstalled the oring in the same place and put the spacer back on with the cap. the o ring is ontop of the cap. is this ok? or is it going to cause problems?

I'm not sure if will cause problems,but it most likely will not seal properly. The best thing to do would be to put the Oring back where its supposed to be as stated on Vfaq.
